Didn't even realise this was a subscription based service...

I purchased Object Desktop awhile ago, never had the need to update it and then upgraded my PC to Windows 10 and decided to check back and see if I could re install Object Desktop on Windows 10, low and behold I paid $50 for a program I cant even DOWNLOAD now, even without the current updates. This is a very poor model, because when I bought it, there was no indication ANYWHERE that it was a subscription based service. You don't pay $30 a year to keep WINDOWS updated or your favorite games, so why should I have to pay that for a piece of software I already paid for? As a matter of fact, I paid $200 for music production software, that includes lifetime updates for free, and I would have gladly paid the same for this if it included lifetime updates. Instead I saw $50 for a suite of pretty cool software that I assumed i would be able to use forever just to find out a year or so later that I have to basically repurchase it?? Honestly, making your customers pay for updates to software you also make them buy outright is just greedy marketing, do you do the same for the games you develop?? Here, buy Ashes of the Singularity on Steam, but now that you bought it, you have to pay us for the newest patch.... it is no different than what you are doing with Object Desktop.

Also looking everywhere on the site, no where does it say you only get access for 1 year, ANYWHERE. Even when you go to renew, it says "renew your access for $29" but it doesn't actually state that that renewal is only valid for 1 year...

Maybe make it clearer to your customers that they have to pay annually for your software and you wouldn't have disgruntled customers like myself complaining on your forums...

I just recently found out that this is a subscription based software when I found a RENEW where I expected a DOWNLOAD button. Had I known this originally- I would not have purchased it. I am in agreement with the OP and Soulcrusher100.

Stardock has ripped me off twice now by automatically charging me for a subscription I never agreed to or wanted! It takes months to resolve this with them or their cohort Bright Market LLC dba FastSpring which does the auto billing! I intend to sue them both for this as I have contacted them multiple times demanding they cease and desist these unsolicited charges to no avail! They are theives and crooks and no one should buy their buggy software anymore!

End of mouseworks2's quote

You seem to be a native English speaker. On this page the word 'subscription' and 'billed annually' are clearly printed, as well as is the difference between that and 'permanent licence'.

I'll bet that on the receipt you were informed as to the automatic billing as well, telling you you'd be billed annually and probably of an 'opt out' choice, as well. If you saved your receipt, take another look at it.

Since the prior entry in 2017, this post had served its purpose and seeing you have created a separate post on the topic,  this one is now locked.

On permanent hide as it's too old and thus irrelevant
