Tried out the Substrate - new AI enemy cloaking abilities?

So I spent a few games today learning the substrate vs AI PHC. Here are a few things I found:

  • BIGGEST issue: The PHC AI keeps moving their dreads out of sight of my forces which cause my forces to ignore them and die. I had forces walk right through my defences and armies and take out my base because they were untouchable. My units just sit there and do nothing. I couldn't even micro them to tell them to attack. They would start to move, the enemy would disappear, and they would stop and sit there doing nothing and die.
I think this new cloaking technology that the AI players have is a little OP. ;)
  • It didn't take me long to figure out the need for capacitors. :)
  • AI spams orbital abilities at higher levels even to the detriment of their own forces. My armies end up being fleets of dreads because anything less is dead.
  • Terrain causes all kinds of site issues which cause all kinds of attacking issues. Our units should be able to see up a hill and shoot at things over the hill with radar support. At least that makes sense to me.

It is very frustrating to watch the enemy walk through your armies that are looking them in the face and letting themselves die like that.

I'm loving this game and very happy with the progress so far. Great game imo. I'm looking forward to the future of Ashes.

There shouldn't be any cloaking.

Are you able to replicate this issue, if so it would be a good to get some screenshots or even better video of the issue.

If units are not in direct line of sight (hill in the way) then they should not be visible. Radar cannot see around corners or through hills so shouldn't either.

It is recommended to use aerial support as scouts to aid in detecting units that are not in line of sight for the ground forces.

End of Moomo's quote

moome's suggestion is a good one.  The AI doesn't like to reveal their dreads early on to your land forces. It's sneaky, but interesting.  Just use air or excessive radar upgrades.  Air is cheaper tho :P

Thanks for the suggestions.

When I encountered this I spammed visual distance upgrades as fast as I could. Like I said, I was trying to learn the Substrate.  :)

I'm not talking about radar seeing around terrain. What I was saying is I should be able to see up a hill and not behind it. There might have been a plateau there to hide behind. IDK. It's a feature not a bug?

I'll try aircraft next. If I encounter my original issue again I'll try to capture it and post it in this thread.

I do love this game. I'm a big RTS fan from the era of Orcs vs Humans (which became the Warcraft series), C&C and Homeworld. Ashes is becoming one of the best.
