Question on how to use an integrated and discrete video card together

Hi, I have heard that DirectX 12 supports using your integrated and discrete video card together for better performance compared to just using your discrete one. I have an intel 3570k cpu and an EVGA 670 FTW 2GB video card. Would I need to install the drivers for both the integrated (the one in the cpu) and the discrete cards to get them to work together in DirectX 12, or only the discrete one?

You can't.

The integrated GPUs lack GDDR 5 memory.

Multi-GPU is pretty much limited to twice the slowest GPU as far as I am aware. Most iGPU are [explicit deleted] compared to dGPU, which will result in reduced performance compared to single GPU performance.

If APUs with sufficient performance are released with HBM integrated for the iGPU, then the integrated GPU might feasibly be able to boost performance with low-mid range graphics cards.

The contribution of the integrated GPU on your CPU would be minimal. With a GTX670, the money makes sense to upgrade to a GTX900 series GPU. Were it a GTX700 series it's not quite as financially justified.

The best thing would be that for DX12 games like Ashes of the Singularity you can use both the GTX900 and GTX600 series GPUs together without implementing SLI.
