Any Guides / How to's

hi all, are then any guides / how to's on getting better ?

Getting a bit lost to be honest as you get further into the game.  I mean I've played a fair few skirmish so I know how to play the game at a basic level but can't beat the normal ai.

tried a ranked 1v1 and just got steam rolled.  Not sure if match making takes skill level into account when creating matches.  I think the issue I have is I kind of get lost mid game.  Ie there is a lot going on, and it's quite difficult to manage it.  For instance if I had 2 army's one would just be sat about idle.  Or if I capture points and don't build anything on them Because your doing other things And don't notice.  it's very difficult to defend against the ai Ie the investment in defence is taken out very quickly by the ai so almost not worth expanding.  This is small maps as well I'm not sure how i could do this game over a large scale.  I think it would just be a mess with nothing actually being done till I just die.

Just curious if im missing some simple things for navigation / controlling this game.  Or maybe I'm just rubbish haha clearly been out of the game to long.

I sympathize. I'm lousy at RTS's in general but have friends that love them. So when this came along I jumped on it and early access just so (I hoped) I could get to understand it better and be better once it was out. It's easy for me to get overwhelmed when there's too much going on.

All that said, this game is "easier" for me than most, I feel. The army management, number of units, buildings, and types help keep the micro-management down.

To your question, I've not found much. A post here has a video link of someone on Youtube who's done some good stuff that might help: https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/476891/page/1/#3631079. His trick of playing a skirmish with an AI on your own team and then watching what they do is rather brilliant and can help you understand some concepts.

Also, you can go on Twitch.tv and look for anyone streaming the game. With some time spent and if they're willing to answer questions (most definitely are!), you'll pick things up.

Lastly, you must have a plan of sorts ready to go. A general plan (take the Turinium ASAP or cover the map ASAP or create strategic defensive points, etc.) is something you should develop. And then, depending on map (and eventually how your opponent is building/playing) adapt your goals accordingly.

I hope some of this helps. There is nothing better than practicing, however. Skirmish and then take your lumps in ranked/multiplayer!

Good luck!

I always recommend taking a look at various Let's Plays on YouTube. There are some that are more geared towards tips and walkthroughs that might be useful.

We also have a player created video thread where videos are posted.

There's also some guides on Steam.
