Foul Play envolved?

Need some expert advice; I introduced my nephew to GalCiv3 maybe 3 to 4 days ago. He got addicted quickly and was setting up races, building ships and having a good time. He even found the command console, so he was able to try new thoughts and such. He wanted to play a game against me so we hooked him up with his own version of GalCiv3 with all DLCs and another computer and it was on.

Now, I'll admit I haven't played in about a year but the following does not sound right to me:

We started the game on large, normal, all races, all minors. I got lucky and settled 4 planets quickly with the worse being a 7 best being a 14. He wasn't so lucky with only 2 planets by move 20 or so. We explored the map, doing what normally happens in the game until we'd finally made contact with one another before move 52. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Suddenly I notice that a lot of AI planets are getting bought up. By him... He has gone from 2 to 8 almost in less then 10 turns- He starts complaing no one will trade with him, so since I have traded for most of the AI's tech I agree to trade with him. We pull up the screen, and I was surprised to see he had about 400,000 gold at this point... Before move 70... I wanted to know how he managed that- he claimed he used the Mercenary's- specifically the survey ship that gives 100 gold an anomaly. I thought about it, and explained I didn't believe for a second that was mathematically possible- after which I sell him some tech for 40,000

The game continues- with him loosing all his money in the next 12 turns, I float him a 10,000 gift and as we move into the age of war things start to get hot with war being declared left and right. He starts getting his ass kicked and I hear him say he is striking back- my turn comes up, and I get the notice that a couple of my colonies are sitting idle. I open them up to find my infrastructure is gone... All that was left where the colony capitals.

Now, since you guys are more active and current on this game then I am, what do you think happened?

unless hes using some sort of mod AFAIK even lvling up that merc ship it still only pays 100 gold so to earn 400k in 70 turns would mean he would need to find and collect ~ 50 anomalies per turn less if he got a few precurser ones that provide a large sum of cash....

heres what i would do if you can still get into that game open up the govern tab go to timelines and go to treasury.

if his treasury suddenly jumps in one turn from the thousands range to the hundreds of thousands then there's some foul play going on if hes treasury seems to increase at a fairly steady rate .... well theres still some foul play going on but theres also the possibility that hes found some obscure mechanic of multiplying his treasury quite a bit.(but i doubt it)

who was hosting the game?

afaik the game does not allow mods in multiplayer games (i dont actually play multiplayer games so i wouldent know but i seem to recall people complaining about that)
however what would happen if you modified the actual game xml's and loaded up a game would the changes take or not?

was he playing a custom race or a standard race? eithar way can you see what racial bonus's he has?

would the game allow you to use the cheat console in a multiplayer game?

if this was the last game you played you should have a debug file somewhere i think it would record any cheats that were entered

hrmm i was able to load into the multiplayer lobby with cheats enabled but i only saw 1 game in there that was password locked and diddent have time to create a game

seems like a serious UI oversight

just tested this at least for me in singleplayer the debug file recorded cheats

Debug Message:  Debug Console Command: fowtrans

C:\Users\XXXXXX\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3

there will be a file called debug.err    this is only created for the last game you played so if youve started a game since then your out of luck

its just a text file so open it with notepad or notepad ++

then [ctrl] + F to search for   "Debug Console Command:" and see what pops up

It looks like there used to be some cheats out in circulation that worked in MP... hopefully Stardock closed the gate on these by now... if they needed to there seems to be some debate whether these memory injection cheats worked in MP or not in the first place. Pretty funny discussion with lots of random ranting though in the Steam thread if any of you are bored lol.
