Controlling Multiple Buildings Simultaneously

I noticed over the weekend that when I selected multiple buildings, and tried to control them, I was having some issues...

Ex. Select multiple factories, and turn on/off production... would not be applied to all of the factories.

Ex. Select multiple factories, and turn off repeat orders... would not be applied to all of the factories.

More generally, I am still a bit foggy on what is going on when multiple factories are selected.

For instance, when I select multiple factories, and start producing drones (clicking on drones), the number of drones to be produced doesn't increment as expected... maybe increments every other click, instead of every click...

And then there is the scenario where you put buildings of different types together... same control group or whatever.  

Anyone have a rock-solid sense of how the game is handling multi-select of buildings?
