T1 AA Anyone?

I realize that T1 is probably not supposed to be viable in itself.

BUT... I also see that if you don't take your second node with your engineer during the first 60 seconds of the game, then you end up at a huge disadvantage.

The situation is made even worse if your opponent goes Rad for their first expo, followed by Airport, followed by obnoxious bombing against your central command.

Would it be so bad to have just a little mobile response to air at T1?

Maybe something that fires slow and is super-squishy?

Then you aren't even more behind the 8-ball, spending resources on extra AA defense, just because you didn't scramble for second node in first 5 seconds of game.

Just a thought.

I talked a lot about that -> hopefully we will get a solution. I read something about more different openings in the future. Maybe this will include a solution (hopefully).

I'd like to see the air tech in a higher level of the tech tree.

Air openers followed by harass are (like Amelie does all the time) must be blindly countered or you suffer huge eco damage within the first 2 mins of the game.

Compared to other RTS like SC2 you at least had the chance to scout your enemy and react.  In Ashes your opener feels more like gambling...

I usually drop a couple of smarties, which serve dual purpose.

And then follow with more AA later in game.

@fantstc1: I am talking of the very early game. Building an airport before anything else, rushing airplanes towards the enemy and then killing extractors or even incursion drops. That early in the game you wont have smarties ready. If you indeed have, then you would have to build them before anything else which is trying to blindly counter again. ;)

take a look at Starcraft 2. In order to do an air opener (Starport -> Banshee or medivac for drop / Stargate for Phoenix or Oracle) you need to do severe tech and ressource investment first which takes quite some time.

Furthermore the AA in SC2 (especially Terran missile turret) is a fearsome repellant for air units. In Ashes - even if there's an AA turret) you can safely fly in, cause some significant eco damage and get out with no or minimal losses.

Some options are:

1) boost power on AA (including possibly the inherent AA of your Command node).

2) boost cost of air to slow other expo (and I personally think it is sort of cool to have air in early game)

3) Weaken air (I think it's pretty good right now, actually)

4) Reduce cost of AA, and certainly build time as well

5) Provide access to some T1 AA mobile units (let those archer missiles fire into the sky!)
