Specific request with regard to upcoming recording capabilities

I don't know if it would be possible, but...

It would be terrific if the recording feature could support export as a normal video (mp4 or whatever).

I think this is one area where recording in StarCraft2 falls down.

In SC2, it is possible to capture games, but as far as I know, if you want to share them, you either need to use twitch or send your recorded game file to someone who already owns the game.

I mean, that's certainly fine, but if the recordings are going to help with marketing in Ashes, it need to be as easy as possible to create videos of epic moments.

It would be pretty awesome if players could just export a video of the playback without too much additional effort.

I'm also thinking this would be important because the game already takes a huge amount of memory anyhow, and forcing people to run a separate recording app simultaneously doesn't seem very enabling???

Just a thought.

Hopefully the devs are already on the same page.

You do understand that replay is tiny game data file that needs game files to recreate game? Which gives viewers free camera, fog of war control and other options.

It's simply not possible to convert replay into video. Video requires to actually capture images. So what you can do is play replay and capture what ever you want, with already plenty of existing tools out there. Same way as people record their gameplay videos right now.

Yes. I get that. I realize that you need the game engine to playback the file. And I realize you need to "direct" the playback.

I am just curious if it is possible to engage recording of playback from within the application, without having to load an extra/second application.

Just give me a button, plain and simple.

"Record this playback."

I'm willing to bet there are code libraries that could do this without much of a lift.

Out of curiosity, what are the other popular options for recording?

I know twitch, but I really don't want to bother to create an account, and I suspect it requires streaming to web anyhow.

I also know that Nvidia used to include a video-making application (I think it was called shadowbox) with its drivers -- but I don't think that runs with the latest cards (I have a 1070).

So.. what are my other options???

I don't want to go and buy a recording software.

Just give me a darn "record" button and make my life simple.

And a "share" button too.

And then I promise to flood the internet with great Ashes content!

There is no point to wasting time on development build in solution for video recording when there is so many 3rd party solutions including from GPU manufacturers. Oh and they are "plain and simple Record this playback".

I guess I haven't been able to find one... I don't know.

IS there one you would recommend that is popular?

Since you have NVIDIA card ShadowPlay should be available for you. Most people I know use it to capture game play footage since its provide good quality and not killing performance. If it's not available to your gtx1070 make sure that your drivers are updated.
