Word From the graphics Divison

Well I think it's time to update everyone on what's going on over here in the graphics Divison. We have been cranking out new technolgize like mad, in the past few weeks and they are really looking nice. I have personaly been over seeing the Galatic trade screen and it is really starting to come to life and it is looking awesome! Part of the Art team is also working on a teaser that should be out pretty soon. Anyway I will try updating you guys on what's going on as mush as I can.

The technology graphics I haven't been putting onto Drengin for download size reasons. But yea, when you play the game, that robot screen actually displays an animated technology for each technology. It's pretty cool.

When can we get to see all this cool stuff? I'm drooling already - and my girlfriend is asking why I have that silly smile on my face..

More of the good grpahics and such will show up later on. Right now, there are some bandwidth issues we haven't ironed out and these graphics and cut scenes are very large in size.

Plus we want to wait until the game isn't quite so lame. ;)

All I can say is Damn,

After what I saw today, I might have nderestimated what our graphics team is capable of. It was just a small teaser movie, which isn't due out for awhile. But man did it every look promising. I CAN'T really say much about it at this time, (without getting into trouble with guys upstairs.) only that it was really well done!

CONGRAT: Great Work Guys! :CONGRAT:

Brad do you hear that??? Free Beer every Friday afternoon!! Now I know I could have used that today. Anyway We don't have the biggest team by any means but I would say pound for pound we have one of the best. :)

Free beer on a Friday afternoon is implemented where I work as well. Unfortunately it's only after 5pm though, but it does get a good start to the weekend!

Look forward to eventually seeing more of the graphics and that trailer!

Paul.

You should see the cut scene we've got together here. I wish we could send it out but we have to wait a bit still. It really rocks.

Things are really starting to heat over here, I saw the new model of Terran (Human) solider and the "Evil News Robot" and I have to say everything is really starting to look awesome! I think we may even have a small test animation of the solider just for you guys next week.

YEZ! Uh oh???! Here comes my girlfriend to strap me down...she got tired of me bumping around when we started the Alpha run..
would you like a place to host the graphics portion till the true alpha stage starts? no cost to you.
let me know and I will make a place for them.
LOL Don't worry I think I can find some bandwidth lying around the office.
I do have bandwidth problems. For alpha graphics can come in small pills...
I'd say I'm more interested in giving depth to the story and influence the path of the game.
Would be interesting to have:
- "dynamic movies" linked to how the game proceed (GNN news, probes playing a battle, planet revolts, "I just decided to kill the sentient dolphins" (not related to Football LOL ) , just invaded the planet, ...)
- or, instead of having a text clearly explaining things, we could be looking at a movie trying to understand the details to take a decision... ;)

Comments?

are THE dolphins ( miami) sentient?
For the most part Gerardo, that has been the idea of how we will tell the story in gal civ since the begin. We are trying to really give the feel of a epic saga enfold before you. We will have all kinds of cut scenes to tell your story or as you called them "dynamic movies".

BTW from now on if you guys don't mind, if you have a question or comment about the "Art Of Gal Civ" please feel free and post them in here.

Thanks!

Alex, what about my second point? Wouldn't be nice to add some fog of news (FON)? :d
Reply #22 Top
Fog of news, please laborite?
When you see a news with images from CNN the conclusion is not at all always clear.
There are pieces of infos coming from the main subject, what happens in the background, the sounds, the text you get, ...
Not everything could be convergent to the same basic conclusion (ie: kill dolphins, repress revolt, ...) but you could find yourself with diverging pieces incomplete infos, sensations, but a sharp decision to be taken.
This is FON.
In additrion USSR and others too (US?) did make fake news to create the fog of news...
Do you like it since you should make tricky scenes...? ;)

The "real world" is that you have multiple news sources that each has its own agneda. A similar thing in
CalCiv could be done that would make life very interesting for the human player. One news agency gives
the story with one slant, another news agency gives another slant. Just like today. Your choice of which
ones to believe influences your decisions, affects the games responses, affects the news of the outcome,
etc. etc. etc.. This would certainly be an improvement over the MOO II GNN. (Does anyone know if MOO III
is making any changes in their GNN?)

Cheers,
Jack

I just thought of another good example of FON. An "investigative reporter" is at the
scene of a news report that people are objecting to the closing of a beach on labor
day (the first Monday after the first Sunday in September in the US). The reporter
is waring a heavy coat and the trees in the background are swaying in the wind. The
reporter never refers to the temperature, or wonders why anyone would want to use
the beach on such a cold day, but voices the complaints that the beach should be
kept open longer into September. All the visual clues of sarcasm were there, but
many people only heard the words.

Don't laugh. This really happened. The protest was part of a law suit in the
Truckee area of California in the 1970-1980 decade (can't remember exactly
what year).

Cheers,
Jack
