Which mercenaries are actually worth buying?

Just wondering about this. A lot of the mercenaries (IMO) are not worth the purchase price.

Early game

  1. The Ysengard (will pay for itself with the extra 100 credits)
  2. The Pollen? Extra manufacturing in a class >14 world will be able to pay for itself.
  3.  What else?

What about the Scion or any of the support mercenaries?

I guess it depends on your goals. I like  ones which give raw production or research and also amenities/happiness. I also like the one that turns a class zero into a class 16 planet.

The Scow can be helpful if you have room in a war fleet for it. Shoot, you get the 250 credits even if participates in an anomaly fight.

There are a few that flip planets and combined with range extenders, they are very powerful.

Other than that, there are a few that stack defenses on the whole fleet, and those are particularly useful at the right times.

Remember that you pay no maintenance on these ships, so the fighting ones save you credits you'd otherwise pay in maintenance costs.

I always take the H-12 Super when I can early in a game. For larger maps with clusters, it is a real boon to finding colonizable worlds and it ain't bad for general exploration.

Probably my most valuable mercenaries was 100 BC for each anomaly. Any survey preferably the fast ones, or better armed. Fast scouts. Extra production, or manufacturing. These are the most useful that I found.
