Noob questions on units and resources

Hi, I picked ashes up this week and I'm struggling with a couple of things:

1. How many refineries do I need, one in each region i capture, or one per mine\extractor, or as many as possible, because I just can't seem to ever get enough gas to have more than 3 production building going at once, even if I take over half a 4 player map.

2. I played an online game where my opponent sent what looked like nothing but drones (a swarm of pixels swirling around my troops) to attack the army at my choke point I lost the entire army, 60 - 80 units and they didn't return fire. Then he just walked in and levelled my base, how is this possible, what did he use and how do I counter it? Many thanks

1: as manny as possible as it bosst your economy, but priorotise geting amplefyers first.

2: am guessint it was a drone swarm, its a arbital abilaty that spawn a swarm of drones, its efective agenst ground units, and you need aa(anti air) to counter it, like aa buildings or aa crusers. if not it might have bin a upgraded sub artilary post, they also spawn dron swarms

(sorry for miss spellings, dont take time to correct them, hope this helps)

1) As Deutchland says, get Amplifiers before refineries. And then boost those amplifies with the relevant orbital ability (keep growing your quanta supply). But start on refineries on your Radioactive node relatively early. The more resource spots attached to a node the better the return from the refinery. So for metal it is normally good to build refineries around your HQ as that often has the most metal spots. For Rads normally best around the starting one so you can protect it better and most rads only have 2 spots anyway. You can just keep building refineries in those two areas, you don't need or want a refinery on every node you have.

2) Apart from AA you need to build orbital nullifiers, they block people using orbital abilities, like nukes, and drone swarm etc in its effective area. Really you need these all over your base. Click them and press/hold Alt to see their radius (though you will also see it when placing it down for the first time).

Excellent, that explains a lot, many thanks guys!

I did have amplifiers already btw, but more refineries and orbital abilities is clearly where I was going wrong.
