Where is the map editor?

I was really looking forward to making my own maps as I found information and even tutorials online that by adding the "-modding" parameter to the executable, will enable the map editor.  When I tried this with escalation, the game wouldn't even start.  Then I searched online for a while before finding a single post saying that the map editor doesn't work in escalation.  Why was this feature removed?  You said that you support modding and you want us to be able to build any RTS within ashes of the singularity yet you remove a feature you already had?

One of the main reasons I bought this game is for the modding support, only to find out that it has less modding support then the first game (Ashes of the Singularity).

I really want this feature, please add it in the next patch.

If I remember right it works in DX11, so it was never removed.

You guys just dont talk or ask to the right players.....

My Steam name is the same, watever you like to know just ask me if no one else knows the answer, no one needs put "-modding" or any other word....

Its same has Dlcs any one can play it on escalation ,I will never understood wy so much mystery around this.

Just remember that to have a good map rendering you need at least 24GB and you cant go + then level 3 ,for that + 32 GB.

Thanks for the reply, but like I said in my post, this does not work.  I'm using direct X 11.  Game is running through AshesEscalation.exe though as that's how the installer set up the shortcut.

It sounds like you are using the map editor under original Ashes of the Singularity.  As I stated in my post, I'm using Ashes of the Singularity Escalation.  I do not have the original game.  I bought the standalone expansion.  I can't find anything online about how to enable the map editor for escalation.  The only instructions I found were for the original game.  When I tried those instructions, the game doesn't even start, let alone any sort of map editor.  From my understanding the way this worked in the original game, is once you added -modding, you would get a map editor button on the main menu.  Well my game doesn't even launch.  Since I don't have the first game, I can't make a map there and port it to escalation.

Thanks for the reply though :)

I don't know what happened to my reply, but it worked with dx11 executable.  Thanks :)

It looks a bit unfinished, so just wondering if it's planned to be polished up soon.  I'm glad I have it though, that's the most important.  I will play with it and see how it works.

I personally probably wouldn't mess around with map editor, but shouldn't this be worked on at least and released hopefully within the first year of the official launch?

If people want to create content for free for your product, shouldn't the company try to support that in order to promote the game further?

I'm sure it's not an easy task to create a map editor, but where is the info on whether it is being worked on and when it is planned to be released?

I have different builds for Ashes and escalation, and has you see the Map Editor is active like i think showld be on original games.

We are only waiting for Workshop and not only for this.

24gb of ram? First who buys that amount?, Either 3 sticks or non matching sticks... Second I'm doing fine on 16gb, works fine, vaste size is a little to much.... also the build? Is it public, beta, custom or experience modder acsess?

To gaming you and any other dont need  more then 12 GB, more then that its wast money.

To me and most designers  for animation renders 64 GB its a need and i use a quadro NV GPU.

Ashes Map editor ask a lot for your ram if you want make a good quality map 4 or +4 quality rendering 32 GB its not always enouth.....

Try make a (R)ebuild quality 5   (e) erosion at 9  and synth 1 and you see  wy 16 GB will always crash

Yes it will crash my system ofc but I don't have to render in shouch high qulities, also why quadro card? Also eould you recommend me to get 32gb of ram? I have 6700 and 1070

I dont recommend you nothing, you use what you think its best for you like all.

Any one can make maps on ashes or escalation with only 8 GB and thats i recommend to all make it, since its lot fun.

I have 1 system because its my work during the day where i have a Quadro K4000, and other where i have my gaming rig where i have a GTX 980 TI Strix.

The difference between both are in view-port wire-frame renderings and double-sided polygon renderings we need it for fast works. which is very common in professional CAD/3D software but not in games.

The difference is almost 10x-13x faster in single-fixed rendering when compared to the hight user ands gpu´s like 1080´s or ATI new cards used only to games.

But todays geForce cards can render millions of polygons per second eliminating the Quadro benefit.

Has anyone made a map editor video tutorial?

If not, I can make one but it would be super cool if someone has already made one.

I'm nearly certain nobody has. Only a couple of people have even made maps.

Yeah, only a few had, I have made some, remade some others, there is somerhinh that isn't clear, the build quality, will it affect the map in any ways? Effects, they are experimental I think but do they anything?

Players can make the map they want.

What almost all dont know its that its not need the map editor to change the map.

To have a different environment, vegetation, climactic variations, snow land vulcan ,more trees or rocks ,you dont need open map editor.

I make my own Effects and other terrain effects on substancer.

The possibilities of modding are so high in this game, that make me fear if stardock open the doors.

The day we can make what i think its possible, we might pass by the nr1 best modding game ever made....

Right now PA and Sup2 owns that item, but we can pass them so fast ......

Then I hope mod support will be better, mod manadger and some tools that will make it easier, steam workshop also.... I might take a look into modding, it's c# that I need to learn?

I have a steam private group since last year ,we are about 7 all modders from other games.

We have lot stuff, not only we have 2 pro designers that make me swap to MODO insted max, 2 member from revamp team help us on some scripts plugins  and some wanted to learn so escalations have a good future next years on the modding section on ower group.

We are waiting for ashes help only for some information about the tools i have ask or some help about ashes format, the rest its all with us.

We have understand all the language this game uses, we have maps, scenarios to multiplayer, themes to all ,tutorials, new race builds, new balance and speed that change all the game, lot units that we dont know yet if we could use them on PHC and SS or new faction.

The problem its that stardock wants have new faction new units and naval ( obvius we have to respect that ), so we feel that there is a little friendly battle between what we can do for free and what ashes still need released.

Thats wy Modding section in a game that could rule on the best modding game still dead.

But we will wait, and you and any other can join us any time you want when workshop active.........

That is really cool to hear Utter, I hope you can the support you need from the Devs. For both SupCom games I have put the most hours into playing mods rather than the vanilla.

More faction is good fore lore and for gameplay for mp needs some more stuff and a better ballance (now it's mostly community driven so will be much better) the naval will be great to have, can't wait for it, but mods needs it's place too but should not effect the naval or new factions

i did find something old about creating maps thx to tatsujb

Quoting ASADDF,

what does cell size mean?

cell size if smaller cause maps to take way longer to generate and also make the map file-size much bigger but in return provides you with a much less edgy more detailed terrain (shape).

I find I prefer lower cell size. the default isn't bad at all. higher than the default makes the map waaaaayyy too triangulated.

Quoting ASADDF,

What does terrain synth type mean?

simply different algorithms for terrain gen

for the same exact map it will generate a bit different. it's neutral as far as I can tell.

Quoting ASADDF,

Build Quality    -+

+ = more vertices. more detail (also more build time and file size)

Quoting ASADDF,

Erosion    -+

+ = very good thing. I like to use this alot. smooths out the terrain. (again with the build time)

Quoting ASADDF,

terrain Synth   -+

same as before. cycles the algos. just use default.

you'll need to hit generate to see the changes done by any of those.

End of tatsujb's quote

I hope that will help a little.

here some more info and help

Derek Paxton created a great in-depth modding guide for Ashes of the Singularity.

Check it out at Mod DB.
