Choice between using GOG and Steam

I came across a post made by Frogboy located at https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/480253/page/1/#3658709 which talks about letting users who register their game with Stardock being able to use either GOG or Steam to download the game.

I love the idea and was hoping to find out if this is likely going to happen and about how long might it take before it would be implemented.

Agree.  Prefer GOG over steam when possible

while I would prefer GOG, unless Stardock UNLOCKS workshop for their games (aka enter a url and download to a mods folder for GOG, something you cannot do at this point), GOG is second class as workshop content currently for gal civ III is STEAM ONLY.  I would bet the same for OTC. To Stardock: look at gog mix: "games with mods locked on Steam".  OTC and gal civ III are also listed in the GOG mix "games that treat GOG as second-class customers" as well.  It does little good to pay full price and get modding tools when GOG customers have 0 access to the workshop UNLESS they have family sharing with someone who has a steam copy, know which folder the mods are in, and move the mods out so GOG can read.

I bought Ashes of the Singularity on GOG but have come to realize the shortcomings of owning it there. The multiplayer base is split between the two stores (not an even split either; most are on Steam) and I also have to wait longer for version updates. Right now I'm still waiting on v2.1 for Escalation two weeks after Steam already got it.
