For some reason I just received an e-mail from 1001winampskins.com announcing their latest contest, the object of which is to remix someone elses skin with their permission.

Excerpt from the mail:
"Our aim is to encourage a type of creativity that is seldom explored in
the skinning world -- the remixing of another skinner's work"

Yes, very creative....

2nd excerpt:
"This contest will allow you to rip, clone, modify and tailor
someone else's Winamp skin to create your own new interpretation"

That one speaks for itself really.

Glad the talentless are finally receiving the recognition, and prize worth $600, they deserve..........

Look at the bright side. It is with the permission of the original artist, right? Or is that optional?

I assume permission is required, otherwise it would be illegal. EIther way I'm not happy about it. First they say it's "a type of creativity that is seldom explored". Try telling that to a moderator at any skin site.

Then they use the word "rip" in their pitch as if there is some positive interpretation of the word. A rip is bad, a sanctioned port is good. Plain and simple. I mean, the talent required is the same either way, but there are two words for it to represent both sides of the coin.

It just irritates me that they are encouraging something that should be discouraged.
