All Desktop Icons (not just inside fences) are on the right side of the screen when Fences is active

Dual monitor setup.

I have an issue when Fences is active (In the Fences Configuration the checkbox "Enable Fences" is checked) the desktop icons are on the right side of my main monitor. If I disable Fences, the icons go back to the left.

I have removed all of the fences from the desktop so I can test this out.

This is independent of the Windows settings for  "Auto arrange icons" and "Align icons to grid".

Bottom line: Fences active = Icons on the right, inactive = icons move to the left.

Where is the setting for this?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Could you please make a screen capture or a video capture of your problem so we can understand it. And we can advice accordingly.

Thanks.

No I'm sorry I can't. I think I explained it well enough.

If I right click the desktop and go into Fences Settings there is a checkbox: Enable Fences

If I check that all the desktop icons go to the right.

If I uncheck it all the icons go to the left.

If I unset View -> Auto arrange icons   the behavior is the same

If I unset View -> Align icons to grid   the behavior is the same

Your request has finally put me over the edge. Why would you need a video of my screen?

Please let me uninstall everything and get a refund

Frankly I am beyond fed up with Fences. I purchased the entire Stardock Desktop package and was only able to use Fences due to a number of issues with the other apps. The Fences snap to an invisible grid and I cannot get them to line up or be the right size (same width as another fence). I tried every setting that seemed logical. Then, Fences has been a continual headache. If I drag and drop one icon into a fence, boom! a bunch of other icons disappear. Then the Recycle bin one day is gone. My Windows settings say it should be on the desktop, but it isn't. I go through and remove all the Fences I created (about 20 of them) and bam, the Recycle bin is back. I DID NOT move it into a fence.  This is the tip of the iceberg. The jerkiness of the movement, the icons jumping in and out of a fence, all very annoying.

So, I thought I will try and re-install Fences. I cannot uninstall it. It always says there's a file in use. I check the task manager and cannot see the task. I rebooted to Safe Mode and it uninstalled. I reboot and Fences is still running. I try to re-install Fences, disable it and remove the license, still cannot uninstall.

I am frustrated and pissed at this point, I want the software gone and off my machine and I want a refund.

How can I make that happen?

Hello Again,

Sorry to hear you feel that way, the only reason I asked for a screen capture or a video grab of your problem so that I can understand your situation better. Please note, I do not have this problem on my system. And I also have dual monitor on my setup. My desktop icons stays on where I want it to be. bottom right for me since there I put my recycle bin. But that is the only icon I have on my desktop. All my other icons I moved into a fence. I set a rule so that all new created icons automatically moved into a temporary Fence which I will delete or moved into another fences accordingly later.

If you still strongly feel for the refund, please do so.. using this link : https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/default_import/Tickets/Submit

Thank you,

Thank you for your clear and unemotional response.

Before I request a refund I want to uninstall any and all Stardock products. I'm pretty sure I have Fences only. Are there clear uninstall instructions somewhere? My attempts at uninstalling it have resulted in 3 BSODs.

Thanks again

I believe they are having some server problem. Hopefully it will get back up Monday morning. I have forwarded your problem to Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

No other path.

That thread you linked was back in July. We do not have issue with that path just few days ago. You just need to wait a few more hours until they come online and get that server up again. Just please be patience.

Thank you,

SUCCESS!

I was able to uninstall it without the batch file. It was left in a state were the app was NOT in the list of installed programs, but was still running.

  1. Re-installed fences
  2. Rebooted
  3. Went into task manager -> startup and disabled the 2 Fences items
  4. Rebooted
  5. Went into Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled it and the uninstaller actually worked.

Thank you for your help and for staying calm when I was so pissed off. I will now make a refund request. Wish me luck.

picasso566 ....it's unfortunate that you have had problems with 'Fences', particularly as yours appears quite specific to your system.

Were you to persevere it's possible/probable that the errors could be replicated and thus resolved.

Needless to say the number of users of Fences is well into the millions with virtually no issues at all...;)

This and one other random forum post are the only places on the entire internet where this is brought up, and they both get quickly sidetracked and nothing is solved.

I can't believe this isn't a bigger problem. I actually have to stop using Fences because of it.

Strangely, I don't see it was sidetracked at all. We were trying to help him, but he was not in a good state of mind to carry on trying to solve it and we can't do much from there on.

BTW inidna, I notice this is your first post ever here in this forum. We would love to help your issue to if you want us to help. Please start your own thread and give us details on your issue.
