Rotary engines & windowblinds?????

Only Mazda measures them as being 1.3L
The rest of the world knows they're the equivalent of a 2.6L


Erm, anyways... how would you turn rotory bits into a WindowBlinds skin? Not that i'm an expert (I don't skin for WindowBlinds), but somehow I just can't picture a rotor translating into a title bar real well. Icons and wallpaper would be easy enough, and possibly other skinnable programs like SysMetrix or WinAmp... but menu bars? Wouldn't you just wind up with a generic metal/machine themed skin?

It would be pretty cool if someone could pull it off... I might even be tempted to use it (even though im a DSM member and not a Rex )... but I can't picture how anyone would go about accomplishing it!

There is no copyright on rotary engine "types"  It would be like saying an animation of 8 pistons pumping is copyrighted.

I could see how to make it, but I'm not much of a skinner, so I am not of much help.  (My WB skins have yet to see the light of day...)

Unless you can find another rotary engine\skinning enthusiast,you would probably have to commission one done.Lots of skinners here .Whats the going rate for a custom skin?

I put this up to to see if someone that makes these winblinds could make a rotary engine theme.I know tons of REX guys that would get the winblinds, just for it. Not to get into the V8 is better or is a 2.6L engine. My 1st ? still stands.

As for some of the things you had to say about the engine.....We can do that to.

How does EVERY engine maker get the L of a engine? It all comes down to the cubic inches of the block. Their is a formula. I can go deeper into it if you like. Bottom line, the 13b N/A, 13BT, 13b-RE & the 13b-REW are all 1.3L engines. The 12A is a 1.2L They do get bigger yet, w/ the 20b (3rotor) and the 26B (quad rotor) <---that engine is a 2.6L

The V8 is a good motor. But, just think about it? The Z06 vet has a V8 that that makes 405 HP. Thats a big motor that should be doing MUCH better then that. 500-600 HP has been made with w/ a 2 rotor engine. Yes, we can pull more out of that V8 but the rotary can do the same. V8's will vary on the horsepower that you can get out of them depending on the manufacturer.  Chevy will also vary depending on if it is a small block or big block. 

I'm interested- what production rotary engine gets pumps out over 405 horsepower?  Isn't the RX-8 the highest horsepower production yet? (At a maximum of about 238 hp)

I have nothing against rotary engines, btw.  I had an RX-7, but it was nothing but trouble.  Didn't have a burning desire to buy another one.  But, I have nothing against the engine itself.  They work well in snowmobiles

Anyway, back to skinning, I don't think that you are going to find somebody interested enough in this to do it for free. If you are offering some money for the work (and theses things require *a lot* of work) then you might get some interest. Most people here make skins for their own enjoyment. If it isn't something they are into, it's doubtful that they will do it for free.

Wankel engine. I'm with Wombat. A true "Rotary" engine was last produced in 1923.

The new rx-8 makes up to 255hp in stock form. As for the rotary that makes over 405hp it can be done w/ most of the turbo engines.13BT Came in all the S4 & S5 2nd gen 86-91 turbo II rx-7's. The 13B-REW came in the 3rd gen RX-7. The 13B-RE & 20B (3rotor) came in the Cosmo. All of these engines can make that HP. We are shooting for 400RWHP with our 88 10th ann. We will hit our goal.....almost there

the whole point is that a V8 STOCK can get that kind of horsepower! Rotary engines are to maintance prone and personally I think they suck. I have a inline 6 that puts out 200 hp and I am happy with it.

BTW I have never hjeard of a 10 second car using a rotary engine... everyone knows inline 4s rule that department....

Stock Corvettes have 400 to 500 hp ratings... Lamborghinis and ferrais do not use rotary motors but they smoke mazda's all day long...

even a Hummer is better than a mazda...

As far as the fastest, I am sure Jafo can tell us that with facts. I refuse to believe a dumb rotery motor is the fastest when we have cars that do 230+ mph with over 800 hp around here...

Ah....I was googling for Aston Martin stuff and came across a page listing ALL the production vehicles' fastest quarters and 0 to 60 and 0 to 100 times.....the first dozen or so were bikes [naturally]...then one of the first cars was the McLaren M1....naturally.....I'll find the link if I can.....but take it from me...the American cars are not on top of the heap...and a bevy of Tokyo two-strokes [pocket rockets] are up there with the big guns....
