Hey all. I'm not 100% sure how this works but, that let throw some stuff out.

I'm a rotary engine lover,builder etc. I want to know how I could get someone to make a rotary engine windowblind.

For the people that don't know what a rotary engine is..... It's a engine made only by Mazda & put into mostly RX-7's & the new RX-8. It doesn't have ANY pistons,valves,cams,heads,push rods etc. It's got ROTORS They look like a triangle (3sides)and the norm. is 2 in a engine. 1.3L that has less then 20 moveing parts & can make wellover 400 HP.

Anywho, How would I go about getting someone to make a blind with them as the theme? I have TONS a pics of these engines and all their parts.(if that helps at all.

All my RX-7 club members would also LOVE to have somthing like this......

Optico....the issue is that any number of people or sources can up ones ante about modified cars and their output/performance....it's adolescent one-upmanship. When I refer to 'real world' cars I mean something in general production....the last Mazda I drove was a [then] new RX3....as a tow car for the race car [a Spitfire]....and it was disgustingly quick even with a tandem trailer, a car and a 200 kilos of tools on board....but it was a REAL car, not some backyard tinkerer's fantasy......for those I'd always admired that Gas Turbine powered 'Vette.

As for me...apart from the odd 'messing around', my Racing 'experience' is purely 'Official', being a FIA ['85] and FIM ['89] Observer and originally since '75...

Terry/Kona...whatever you want to call yourself, you really need to go to the track more and start learning about racing.  You keep talking about a 10 second quarter mile.... were you watching Fast and Furious again? 

And, this 900+ hp Dodge that you talk about.....uh...what does that run in a quarter mile? 

And, sorry, but I thoroughly doubt that your escort will beat a Stang GT on the track.  Unless the GT has a blown motor or your Escort if pumpin' a big block (which wouldn't fit, so we won't even go there......)

I really get irritated by people talking smack about things that they have no clue of.  I live in a drag racing family.  I have more heads, block and trannies in my pole barn than anyone should ever have.  I record track temps, barometric pressure, wind, air temp and all sorts of stuff to calculate speeds when we run brackets.  Don't talk smack about what you don't understand.

Back to the rotary engine, the 238 hp that I quoted was directly out of an RX-8 solicitation (with the 6 speed which has more hp than the auto) that was sent to me.  I would be curious of why they would publish that if it will pump more?  Production values are usually high, anyway, because they run the dynos at optimal conditions.

BTW, V8's run under 5 seconds all the time.  Since all the fast Rotary stuff is highly modified, compare it to a highly modified v8.  Kenny Bernstein runs around a 4.48 quarter mile. 

I can't find it, but I'd really like to see how much $$$$ it takes to make a rotary pump 500hp versus a V8.  (And, of course, the chassis work and tranny that could stand it....)

I am *not* slamming rotary engines.  However, I am pretty sure that there would be more of them on the track if they are better than V8's for racing.

I would never buy a rotary because I had an RX-7 and it was nothing but a headache.  I also won't buy another VW TDI due to the fuel system issues (nothin' better than gelled diesel in the winter) or a Ford (for many reasons....and I have had a lot of Fords).  We are currently fitting a 79 Mercury Capri with a Chevy Big block. Will be a pretty sweet ride when we're done....probably not street legal, but will be able to run it with street tires and mufflers, so we can run it in the street car shoot outs.  Hubby's bored with the current ride, I guess, and already has plans for turning a spare Berretta GTZ into a tube chassis ride.  (Good thing we have a really big pole barn.........)

The best thing about this is that you guys have to go though so much to TRY ta prove that your inline 4-6,V6, V8, V10, V12 etc is better then the rotary. I'ts a 1.3l engine. You keep throwing you best at it and are yet to prov it's not a force.

Jafo, If you are truly into racing and like it, you should come and check out the diff. RX-7 forums. Yes we talk about the rotary but we also talk about EVERYTHING! There are alot of great tuners, builders and GURUs. You could learn alot, as some maybe able to do from you. They have boards for just auto-X, drage, BP, what ever your into. Yes, we are rotary ppl, but rotary ppl. are some of the most knowledgeable car guys out there.... Alot ta be learned by every one:)

Never said I understand it. I was just trying to make the point of Mazda's rotary engines and mazda itself sucks.

Why are you flaming me? hell I have been attacked more than once in this thread...

As for the Escort thing I can beat V8 off the line ONLY cuz I have a stick and they have a auto. Happens only and red stoplights anyways and dosen't last long, the V8 catches up to me.

Please turn you wrath somewhere else...

As for my name, I changed it to terry 0197 to match my email and I haven't been riding lately so Kona dosen't fit.

Himni...I've met many of the world's greatest drivers and am fully aware of where I fit into the scheme of things [NOT driving].....I'm happy to just stand there and wait for them to do something 'naughty' so I can pen an incident report for the stewards...

As for messing with motors...my first engine swap was when I was about 12.....I figured I'd better sober up when I saw my mate literally assembling a 351 Windsor on his bedroom floor....but all that was 37 years ago.

Now I fart around in a 1600 Corolla...the Spitfire has been on blocks for 15 years...[maybe a retirement project]...and I get my jollies being up close and personal with the F1, MotoGP and World Superbikes.....much more fun than grease under the fingernails...

I never once dogged a v8, v6, l4. Never said anything bad about a piston engine. I merely posted recorded fact.

You people went apeshit claiming this and that, ignoring fact and making inflamatory comments.

If you would have read my posts, you would see that the last model of the rx-7 was faster and had more horsepower stock than a camaro and a mustang both with v-8 engines. I never sad that a v-8 was worse nor better, just stated fact.

How fast do the valves on a cbr 600 rr open at 15,000 rpm's?

Why is sodium used in some valves?

because they used castor oil to lubricate the engines... is was so thin that it escaped past the seals and got all over the pilots head... the scarf was to cover the pilots mouth and to clean the goggles.

actually Jafo posted quite a few facts and backed them up with links proving how inferior the rotary is.

decides, as with what karmagirl said, what the cost would be to get a rotary motor into the neighborhood of a V8 is probably alot of dough...
