GroupyCtrl Icon in Taskbar

Is it normal?

When I run Groupy there is always a GroupyCtrl icon showing Groupy running sitting in the Windows Taskbar along with all my other running programs.  It does nothing for me and I would like to see it go away.  Is this normal behavior, and is there a way to make it stop?

Thanks much,

Russell

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Never happen in my system, could you provide us with a screen shot of this issue in your system.

Thanks

No that is not normal. Please try the purge and reinstall steps : https://forums.stardock.com/488142/groupy-support-faq#reinstalling

make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Run the purge and reboot. Reinstall and reboot again. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,

Basj,

I performed the "purge and reinstall" as requested, but the results were the same.  However, I also found a GroupyOnOff.bat file that allowed me to quickly test different scenarios.  So I have a lot more information for you now.  :)

This is what I have found from my testing...

- I have a multi-monitor setup (4 monitors)

- The Groupy tray icon is NOT there on bootup (good/normal)

- If I group windows on my 'main' monitor all is well (good/normal)

- If I group a window on my 2nd, 3rd, or 4th monitor while the window is NOT maximized fullscreen then all is well (good/normal)

- If I group a window on my 2nd, 3rd, or 4th monitor onto a window that IS maximized then the issue occurs (bad)

Interesting also is that I do not even have to group the windows for the tray icon to appear.  As soon as I hover my 'dragged window' over to the window to group with (again, this window is maximized, fullscreen, on a non-main monitor) and as soon as the text "Group this window and the dragged window" appears so does the tray icon.  I can then move the window away and 'not' perform the grouping, but the icon still remains.  The only way to have the tray icon go away is to run the GroupyOnOff.bat file, or reboot.

Finally, to recap. The issue does not occur on my main monitor, whether the applications are maximized on that monitor or not.  The issue only happens on any one of my non-main monitors and only if the window I am dragging a window onto is maximized full-screen.

I hope this detail helps and you are able to reproduce the issue.  Let me know.

Cheers,

Russell

Are all your monitors attached to the same display card and are you using any software which might make them appear as one screen, or modify the taskbar in any fashion (third party taskbar apps?)

Each screen is independent of the other with no merging of screens into one.  I am also not using any third-party taskbar apps.  I am using Stardocks Multiplicity, Fences, and Groupy, all installed via Object Desktop Manager.

The computer is an HP Elitebook 850 G3, and it is using a standard HP docking station. The multi-monitor setup is a bit hacked together as follows:

  1. Three of the monitors are plugged directly into the docking stations display ports
    1. Two of those ports are DisplayPort out
      1. One is using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable
      2. One is using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable with an HDMI to DVI adapter on the end
    2. The third port is VGA out
      1. And it is using a VGA to DVI adapter on the end
  2. The fourth monitor is plugged into a DisplayLink DL-195 USB to DVI adapter
    1. Using DisplayLink Manager Version 8.6.1294.0

Any thoughts?

I am afraid we cannot reproduce the issue and it would be a challenge to set up a test environment that resembled yours.

My gut says it is linked to the DisplayLink adapter software, but that's purely a gut feeling.
