Can I disable Groupy for one app?

I just installed Groupy on my Win 10 x64 box.  It's doing great.  However one old app (FileBack PC 4.1) I have and still frequently use, looks to be somehow incompatible with it when Groupy is on (the window keeps disappearing, program response very slow, ...).  Note that I am NOT trying to Group it with anything or even use Groupy with it -- I just want to use it "normally".  I added it to the list of Application Exclusions, but still have the problem.  Is there some way I can prevent Groupy from trying to do anything with this program, so I can get back to its normal behavior?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try this, get "FileBack PC" group with anything. eg Windows explorer. While your "FileBack PC" tab is active click on the 3 dot tabs : Choose "Automatically exclude from auto grouping all "FileBack.exe windows. Please refer to s/shot below as an example.

Try it and let us know.

Thanks.

Basj,

Thanks,  I just tried that but I still get the same behavior.  Maybe rebooting might fix some of these?  I don't reboot very often (weeks).

Or any other ideas?  (Interestingly as I'm typing this even my Chrome window is vanishing for a few seconds and then reappearing -- I've never seen this before, so I assume something about Groupy.  I'm not doing anything Groupy-wise w Chrome either.

Thanks

I do not use "FileBack Pc" in my system. But I do use Chrome and yet I do not have the behavior you mentioned above.

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed. Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,

Basj,

Thanks, but all looks fine in scf:

sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

That's what I expected since I only moved to Win 10 version 1809 two weeks ago.  Note that I only saw Chrome "do something funny" that one time, so I don't think that's a good thread to follow now, but focus on the FileBack problem.  I'll reboot soon and see if that solves any problems.  But please do let me know if you have any other ideas on this.

Note that FileBack PC has not been updated since 2007, so it's using a pretty old Win API -- my suspicion is that's not working well with Groupy's assumptions about how applications behave.

Thanks,
Dave

End of BaliDave's quote

Please do, a lot of issues were resolved just by rebooting.

Do let us know.

Basj,

Rebooting didn't help.  Also after grouping Thunderbird windows, often things are not working there -- clicking on reply to a message, right clicking on some buttons, and even the top File menu.  Sometimes I can regain functionality by ungrouping a Thunderbird window, but not consistently.  This is a stopper for me since I spend a lot of my time in Thunderbird.  I'd like to keep what Groupy brings but can't have it massively interfere with my activities.  FileBack is not a stopper since I don't interact with it often.

I'm now trying ungrouping Thunderbird and putting it on the Application Exclusions list, and I'll let you know if I run into problems there (with Groupy problems often didn't happen at first, but after some time). But if you have any suggestions on how to overcome this, I'm all ears.

Thanks,
Dave

Hello again,

I just installed Fileback PC 4.1 just to test thing out. I did not face any problem. The program seem working for me. I did not run any back up just run it at and see if it turn itself off. But it did not happened for me. Not sure why its happened on yours maybe try to uninstall and reinstall Fileback PC?

As for Thunderbird there were few reports saying its not playing well with groupy and some of them just add Thunderbird on the Application Exclusions list as you did.

Thank you,

Basj,

OK, Thunderbird seems to be working OK since I disabled it in Groupy.  But FileBack still doing very strange things: window disappears for 15 secs and re-appears, normal actions slow.  Also when interacting with it, my Chrome window where I"m typing this, also disappears and reappears.  That seems to ONLY happen when I'm interacting with FileBack and typing into a Chrome window (e.g. this reply).  It looks like the 2 windows are somehow confused temporarily.  Anyhow I can live with this since I don't often change FileBack settings.

Occasionally I see Excel (it's Groupy'd)  menus unresponsive, e.g. File, but if I move the tab outside and come back in, all seems OK.  I'm so-far successfully using Groupy with Explorer, Evernote, TexNotes, and a couple other progs without problems.

Anyhow you get 5 stars for your support efforts -- wish more outfits were so conscientious.  I'll continue with Groupy, but hope future versions might fix these annoyances.  It's still a very useful tool for me.  Let me know if you have other suggestions or a later version might overcome some of these.

Thanks,
Dave

Hello, glad to help.

With regards on Excel you can try disable the hardware graphics acceleration on the Excel.

Its on File-> Options-> advance -> Display and tick the disable hardware graphics Acceleration.

Some say it works, also in Words and Powerpoint.

Thank you,
