Stardock Central

I have been using Component Manager for about six months...but read (on this message board) that CM is being phased out (or already has been), and that Stardock Central should be downloaded to replace it. I wasn't sure if I needed to uninstall CM before installing SC, so I emailed Stardock asking them about it...here's the reply I got:

Quote:
That isn't necessary to use Stardock Central. If it's not broke,
don't fix it, is what I always say. I'd just leave it alone on your
system.

Thank you,
George
End Quote.

> What's up with that?? Why would someone from Stardock say that? I already told them I downloaded SC, and all I wanted to know was whether or not to uninstall CM first.

You do not have to un-install CM. Just install SDC and go from there........

Maybe to save you from the 'who's on first' folder game. SDC will load your proggies to a differant folder (program files\stardock) then CM did (program files\object desktop). You'll have to copy your skin files over to the new folder or they won't show up when you run each app. If you want to make life really easy.......un-install everything and re-install with SDC (leave CM out). They will install to correct folders (stardock & wincustomize). In either case save your skins to a temp folder

They did, but in very strange words.

I think they were just being friendly. Perhaps a language barrier?

Stardock Central still installs Desktop Components to Program Files\Object Desktop folder even tho i dont have Component Manager.

Only thing that gets installed to Program Files\Stardock is ObjectDock 0.95.

You must have one of those 'roque' computers..... If you do a clean install you will not have a program files\objectdesktop folder anymore. If you do, let me know 'cause there must be something really wrong with mine

Mine installs to 'Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop' too. It's perhaps best to do a clean install, even if technically CM and SDC are happy to co-exist.

SDC gives you the option to designate what directories you want to use. Just tell it where you want it before downloading. I never put this stuff on the C: drive. I have a nice 32 gig partition (E:) that all my art stuff goes in.
