Start10 kills Windows taskbar toolbar(s)

I used to have a custom toolbar (panel) on my Windows 10 taskbar.

After Start10 is installed, that toolbar disappeared, as if I have just deleted it. More to that, with Start10 installed, a toolbar can be created anew just to disappear again upon logoff/logon. The same goes for built-in toolbars, e.g. Desktop. I enable it, do a logoff/logon and the Desktop toolbar is gone as if I have disabled it back.

The Start10 version is 1.8, Windows 10 version is 1909 (build 18363.720) – Windows 10 Home edition single-language.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can't recreate this issue on my system. Need to know, what steps has you taken to ensure that Start10 is causing the issue.

Thanks.

End of basj's quote

Ok, here we are...

0. (No Start10 installed)
1. Added new panel to taskbar
2. Rebooted or logged off/on: the new panel persists (expected behavior)
3. Installed Start10
4. Rebooted: the new panel is gone (erroneous behavior)
5. With Start10 installed, added the new panel once more
6. Logged off/on: the new panel is gone (erroneous behavior)
7. Uninstalled Start10, rebooted
8. Added new panel once more
9. Logged off/on: the new panel persists (expected behavior)

Here what I get on my system. As you mentioned in your first post. The issue happened also with built-in toolbar ie Desktop toolbar gone after restart.

I am not saying that it don't happening in your system. It just that something else might causing it.

First, let's try the purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here :  https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall the latest version you just download. Reboot again. Retest and report back.

Thank you,

Like basj, I too could not reproduce the issue...

It seems my Windows installation or perhaps user profile has some "floating defect". That is, something has changed and now it's not keeping toolbars even after Start10 removed.

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem.

Thank you,

I come to believe that it's something to do with the Windows version - the Home edition single language. It is something it is doing without being asked. It's a notebook with preinstalled Windows, that is. On my main machine Windows is Enterprise and it's all working just fine with Start10.

I would never install Home edition voluntarily )))

Will continue to research and pin it down.

Hello,

The problem WAS NOT with the Start10 as I believed initially.

In fact, I haven't found the exact cause, but I managed to resolve the issue by deleting my Windows user profile and creating a new one. Before I did that, the panel kept disappearing even without Start10 installed.

I am really sorry for the disturbance I've caused! Stardock you're doing a great job!
