In 2013, I bought into the Founder's Edition of Galactic Civilizations III for $99. It spent two years in development, and had a decent 1.0 release in 2015. The game has been released for over 4 years and six months now. In that time, the game has reinvented itself multiple times, and if I stretch the investment for the amount of years that I have played this, it works out to be $20 a year, which is much less than other AAA titles. It's four cups of Starbucks in a different way of thinking. The value proposition of this game is outstanding, and with some time for Christmas to play, I'm diving back in and relearning the game with some DLC's that I've not tried yet.
If you want to own a Stardock game, it'll be supported even if it releases with bugs. If you are given the chance to become a Founder on a Stardock game, it's been a really outstanding value proposition for all the games that I have been a Founder on. And as Galactic Civilizations is one of Stardock's flagship titles (if not THE title), it should be a no-brainer to get in on the action if it is ever offered again.
Don't know if or when a GalCiv IV is coming out (it stretches out the value for GalCiv III for longer), but if it ever comes around, I'll be buying in at full price to be a Founder as I want to see a future. It's been that great a proposition. If you've just come in by the Humble Bundle route, welcome to the community, and I hope you enjoy the game as much as we have over the years.
