Solved > Text colour not switching between themes

Hello all,

On picking a dark theme, such as "Cairo Dark", the text in a file explorer window seems to be black on a black background.  Any ideas why the text colour isn't switching?

It also does this when I use the Windows settings panel to choose dark mode.

So, probably Windows is confused? (Windows 10 Home 1909)

All other aspects of Curtains seem to work fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Any special reason you're not updating your Windows 10 to the latest official version 20H2? From what I understand Curtains work better with the latest official version of Windows 10.

And also, please try the following:

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,

Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply.

Following the guide at Microsoft, I ran both dism.exe and, first,  sfc /scannow.  SFC initally corrected some errors, but no change in the text problem.

Having run both, both are now happy, but still the text in dark mode remains unreadable within the File Explorer.

I will probably update to 20H2 soon; I update annually, and I like to give it a good few months after the release to make sure everything is fixed!

I doubt that it will affect this issue though, it feels like it's to do with a setting somewhere that I for some reason can't reach.

Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/500728/curtains-support-faq#CurtainsPurge Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you for your message.

To be honest, as the problem still exists when using Windows control panel to switch into dark mode, I don't think that the install of Curtains is at fault.  I had the problem before getting Curtains, I was partly hoping that it might fix it!

I plan to investigate the issue further as a Windows problem, and I'll report back here if I find a fix.

Thanks again.

Update:

Firstly, to report that updating to Windows 10 20H2 didn't change anything.

Later, it occurred to me to try creating a new user profile in Windows:  when logging on as the new user, everything works as expected!  So it looks like some sort of weirdness with my user profile, which probably has some legacy settings - I've had it since Windows 7, upgraded to Windows 10, so it's been ongoing since 2014.

So probably some setting or other, maybe that Windows 10 can't access in the same way?

Thanks again for all the input, much appreciated.
