Weather App on taskbar cannot be removed

Right clicking on blank area of taskbar does not work

Have a Win 10 tablet PC recently updated to 21H1.

I've a few MS Store apps including weather; for many months.

Suddenly (i.e. yesterday / today) on the taskbar is a weather app I want to remove. Search engine results say to right click on a blank area of taskbar to remove. It does not work. Any ideas?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not sure if this related to Start10. But what do you see if you right click on the "Weather App" on the Taskbar? Do you see "Unpin from taskbar"? Select that and see if that remove it from taskbar. If you don't see that menu, post a screenshot of what you're seeing.

Thanks

Right click on an empty space on the taskbar and look for the item "News and interests" and select "turn off".

Thats a lovely new feature Microsoft added in a recent patch which rolled out to everyone using 20H2 and 21H1.

RESOLVED.

The right click and left click were yielding the same result as was clicking the icon itself.

However when I clicked on the notification centre I was not in "tablet mode" so i changed it and new options were shown as per Jan Oscar. I conclude it is a Windows peculiarity.

Note that when browsing etc., as far as I am concerned, I have the PC with tablet mode on or off; makes no difference

"News and interest"...I do not want it and I don't read it but I cannot hide it because when I do, it hides the other icons as well. So how do I hide this feature "yellow icon" that I do not want appearing??? Has anyone been successful???

I was able to block the news material via Norton firewall blocking the following (C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\SearchApp.exe) but I still have the icon and I cannot hide it because it hides all the icons.

Right click on taskbar, highlight News and Interests, and click on Turn Off on the menu. Works fine here.

Since this is not a Start10 issue, shouldn't this be moved as to better serve future user issues?

On another note, this news and interest thing causes issues with WindowBlinds.  If you remove it, you must reapply the skin, or restart explorer to get the taskbar/systray area to look right again.

I am removing the other software to find culprit causing the disappearing of my icons. Basically going back to start10 on it own.

This is a microsoft thing. Losing software isn't going to fix it.

Do as was stated above in reply #2
