I had posted I didn't receive a Steam key for Phoenix Point but I believe you had to be a backer or something.

I had the same issue with Origin, which is why I never bought from them again.  They came to PDXLan once and apologized as they actually knew the purge era and why, but by that point, many of us there was so angry at Lucy Bradshaw for the SimCity debacle that few of us bought from Origin again.

Epic does seem to have their act together better though.  I don't mind the exclusivity as long as there is guaranteed platform support for it there (while I like GoG, it's a bit of a headache to coordinate with their support team).  Also, Epic does better development deals, and Stardock is a relatively small development studio who needs as good a set of terms as they can get with revenue sharing.

I don't mind Epic at all so far. They kinda just do their own thing and leave the gamer alone to play his games. Steam to me still has one big advantage over all the others such as Epic, GOG, etc... and that's their Workshop.

I wish someone with Stardock would reply because Epic is currently having a sale in which you would get a $10 discount if you bought the game but the sale ends on the 17th. This game I would not buy on Epic without a confirmation that I would get a Steam key when the game comes to Steam. That is because of the Steam workshop and its mods.

It's highly doubtful.  Steam does provide free keys to developers if they want to sell them directly, but one of the stipulations is that they can't be used to favor non-Steam customers (since Valve isn't making any money off them).  If they offer a discount or deal using those keys, then there should be a comparable discount or deal offered to Steam customers within a reasonable time frame.  Also, if it appears the developer is abusing the system, Valve will stop issuing keys.

So, Stardock can't provide those free keys to EGS customers; they'd also have to offer free keys to the Steam customers, which will probably be viewed as abusive (as that would have Stardock requesting more keys that copies sold through Steam.  The only way it would be possible would be if Stardock were footing the bill for the Steam keys, which is unlikely to happen.

I know I'm in a very small minority, but Epic Store is a non-starter for me.  I'm a Linux gamer, and the Epic store is a major PITA to use.

I am, however, a major Stardock supporter and own multiple franchises and DLC.  Subscribing to the thread for when GC4 becomes more available for my needs.

We are developing our own internal mod manager and tools. That will allow mods to be shared independent of any store or platform they are on. This is something we are also working direct with mod makers on. We do not like how limited the Steam Workshop is. For example we are unable to ban people who repeatedly upload stolen mods.

No mention of being able to play the game off line if Steam/Epic/ someother platform is off line or otherwise unavailable.  

I don't know with any certainty why Stardock chose to go with Epic. I prefer the cleaner, easier interface of Steam myself, but I honestly don't understand why people get so worked up about this unimportant issue. Wanting to support a new game by a reliable developer in a franchise I love is far more important to me than the platform on which it's housed. Maybe Stardock received money form Epic for going exclusive. If so, great. Anything that helps them get the game ready faster is okay in my book. Maybe they want to operate without fear of angry Steam users review bombing them if they experiment with changes that a vocal subset of players don't like. I know that was one of the reasons Mohawk put Old World on Epic.

Lots of self-sorting is going on out there. I'm as guilty as the next guy. I can barely bring myself to speak to people who hold political beliefs I find abhorrent, but Steam vs. Epic is too trivial a conflict for me to bother with. It's not a hill to die on. It's not even a hill worth climbing. 

I second steam keys and a native Linux version. I hope they offer a lifetime membership on steam. I feel betrayed. I didn’t want to go to steam after that Skyrim fiasco, but because of Stardock I did. So now after 8 years I have invested to many games to switch platforms I risk forgetting my account information, and losing a lot of games. Please provide steam keys. I do know one med difference between two and three in two you could have several mods like miny games. In three it treated different mods as one. Cant we have it both ways.
