Slow Software Combo

When I use WinFX, Desktop X, or ObjectDock individually, everything is nice and fast. When I use two at a time (any combination), it's still pretty fast. But when I have all three running at the same time the framerate really dives to the floor, I'm estimating between 5 and 10 FPS then. The resizing animations get noticably jerky for all three and stuff takes much longer to do.

winfx is a real processor hog. object dock can be jerky if you dont have a powerful proc. or set the zoom too high.Dont know abot DX.Ihave 1 ghz system and I cant run winfx well. The newest version of object dock is harder on the proc too.I had to reduce the zoom from 192 to 128 and its still kinda jerky.

GPU overload...

????

Some Video cards use system memory and that is a lot of Graphics processing taken together with any applications you run, along with CursorXP and Windowblinds for Theme continuity.

just guessing...

I know my desktop doesn't care what I throw at it, nothing seems to slow it down much.

But this laptop

900mhz, 512 meg Ram with a few gig's of free space, absolutly crawls...... with OB,DTX,WFX,CXP and WB loaded...

WB, CXP runs fine
WB,CXP + WFX crawls after about 10 minutes
DTX, WB, CXP, OB crawls from the start
DTX,WB,CXP - crawls after about an hour
DTX,OB,WFX - crawls from the start

The most common I found in all instances was WFX always hits my laptop hard...

It's the chipset....

oh andsome of the GPU's(Graphics Processor) off load to the CPU(Motherboard Processor)because of the way the chipset works and also limitations in ram.

On laptops you're pretty much stuck excluding upgrading the ram amount. On the Desktop systems you can get a new card that has more memory and a newer chipset really lowpriced these days.

Which would also help in playing Games, creating Graphics and Windows to some extent, less swapping to disk and such...

Oh, and for the WinFX dragging animations, I always get tons of moving pink squares when trying it, so I don't have that enabled, even though it would be quite neat if it worked properly.

yeah, I wish htis laptop could handle WFX also...

so I'll have to wait for a new one S3 chipsets work ok for most things, but...

And imagine... I was just asked why I do not use these proggies in another thread. i do not have a powerful enough machine!

kona, windowblinds and cursorXP would not bog your machine down. Some of the other stuff might if you tried to use them all at the same time. So don't try and use that as an excuse for not having any of the programs.

yes it would. I only have a 233 mhz machine and windows 98. So cusor XP will have problems and so will anything else. I only have 128 ram and 2 mb of video ram.

I thought CursorXP was only designed for 2000 and XP

I wasn't trying to use it. Read the whole thread. I have no desire to try to use any Stardock programs on this 233 mhz machine. It is not powerful enough.

Legolas, I've run WindowBlinds on a 486 before fairly well, and on a PI with no trouble. This was on Win '95

I didn't want to, but I was stuck using my g'parents' computers for two weeks and just couldn't stand the plain '95 interface

Smetimes I do. I would gladly purchase the entire Stardock estemble if I had the funds right now. It is on my to do list.

I know but I much rather need a high end bicycle right now. Maybe at tax time I can get a good PC.
