On install did not import all Windows 10 start groups

Installed on Windows 10 Pro before updating to Windows 11 Pro.
I am missing several Windows 10 Start Groups, while those were still showing in the Windows 10 Start menu.
It seems something is going wrong with the import.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to clarify, you're using Start10 or Start11 and you are having Start10/11 on your Windows 10 while upgrade to Windows 11? Please elaborate on your upgrade process.

Thanks

Hello Bas,

I have never had Start10. I had the Start11 v1.0 on Windows 10 before, updated to Windows 11 preview, reverted to Windows 10 and uninstalled Start 11.

Giving it another try now, I installed Start11 v1.1 on Windows 10 and noticed that not all app groups were imported from the Windows 10 Start menu to the Start 11 Start menu. After, I updated to Windows 11, so that is not of influence in the case.

Below a screenshot of the Windows 10 Start menu as it used to be for your reference. It were the Start Groups top left and bottom right which were not imported. These and other groups contain Edge (Chromium) app installs.

Cheers,

Joscelin

JoscTr, under the account you posted under, you don't seem to have a license.  Are you still using the trial?

In the meantime,  I have created an internal ticket to have it looked at - if there may be an issue with URL groups.

Internal ref: ODNT-3321

Thanks for the report.

Hello Sean,

Yes, I am re-trialling again on an email alias.

From my memory, it were only the top left and bottom right groups that failed to import. Please note that in other groups there are browser installed apps too. Altogether, I have no suggestion is what might cause the import failure.

By the way, a feature I do appreciate is that I can tilt the mouse wheel to switch between Start pages. I feel this should work the same way for Fences Pages. I will create a suggestion post on that.

Cheers, Joscelin

Same thing here.  I had wiondows 10 without Start 10/Start11.  Upgarde to Win11.  After I install Start11.  The old layout of the Start menu windows 10 are not there.

And what did the groups consist of if there was anything special about them - URL ones like JoscTr had?

It can only import the Windows 10 menu if your OS is Windows 10 when Start11 first runs.

If you have already upgraded to Windows 11 then the import will import the Windows 11 menu as the Windows menu data relates to that and your old menu is lost.

I see that I have not upgrade the right path.  Maybe just specify that if we want to save our layout Windows 10 menu, we have to install first Start11 on Windows 10 and after upgrade it to Windows 11. I did the reverse.

Maybe have a tools to go read in windows.old the old layout ?

I installed Start11 on Windows 10 first, of course. As reported, it did not import my full Windows 10 Start menu lay-out.

What build of Windows 10 did you have installed at the time?

Tests here are showing import is working correctly with edge saved webapps like YouTube.  The only reason for something to be missing would be if the app wasn't considered 'installed' on the computer which can happen after an OS upgrade of course.

Some of those app installs are a year old maybe.

My observation with Windows and Edge updates is indeed that how installing web apps is dealed with seems to be in a continued state of flux. As you say, it may be causing the import issue, even though the app links in Windows 10 Start were working well.

Windows 10 at the time was either current release or release preview, not dev or canary.
