Start11 enhanced taskbar disables all the icons on the taskbar

Once the enhanced taskbar in V1.2 is enabled, the taskbar is completely empty. Only the start button remains together with the tray.

All the icons of the sticky programs and all the open programs are gone.

Once the enhanced taskbar is disabled, the icons are back.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But you're on Windows 10 or 11? and your full version numbers please. Use Winver.exe to get those numbers.

Thanks

I'm seeing this same issue.  This is my first install of Start11. (though I installed Fences yesterday)

  • As soon as I choose to "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar", the taskbar icons go away. (all but the start menu icon and the system tray - they remain).
  • When I click to re-load explorer, the taskbar icons show up.
  • In about 8 seconds, the Start11 application menu (Start Menu, Start Button, Taskbar, Search, Control, About, Buy Start11) refreshes.  During that same refresh, the taskbar icons disappear.
  • I've tested this with and without interaction during those 8 seconds. (mouse/keyboard) No difference.
  • When I turn off the "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar", the icons appear immediately and the refresh that occurs a few seconds later doesn't affect the taskbar.

  • I'm on Windows 11 Pro: 21H2 (OS Build 22000.556) (Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.556.0) It is an in-place upgrade from 10.
  • I've got 4 monitors. (showing taskbar on only the main monitor)
  • 32GB Ram; 11th Gen Core i7;
  • My Start11 is Version 1.2. (running as a trial)  I'm also running Fences, but no other desktop management software.  (oops - just noticed I have Windows Power Toys enabled - just disabled - same result)

I have the exact same problem. Also, opening new apps does not place an icon on the taskbar. I am using Windows 11 and the Windows 10 Start Menu emulation with the taskbar on only one of my monitors. All pinned and through having been opened app icons are missing from the Enhanced Taskbar.

How many monitors do you have?

I also have this problem. Windows 11 21H2
As soon as I startup my laptop and enhanced is enabled, all pin icons disappear. Laptop is attached to a docking station.

If I disconnect laptop from the docking station, the pin icons shows up on the taskbar and enhancement is working.
If I reattach laptop to the docking station, the pin icons are still displayed, so enhancement is working, untill I reboot my laptop.

Is the taskbar set to show on all monitors or just one?

That's interesting as that seems to be coming up a few times.

If you set it to show on both does the problem occur again?

I think we have reproduced this on a test setup.

For those with the issue do you have the following setup?

> 1 monitor

Main monitor to the right of a secondary

Taskbar set to only appear on the main display.

Good to hear that you could reproduce the problem.

When setting the taskbar on both monitors, after a reboot enhance seems to work fine on my end.
After changing the setting back to main monitor, the disconnect laptop from docking station didn't work anymore after a reboot.

Only solution was to show taskbar on both monitors. Enhanced then would show up fine. When changing it back to main monitor, enhance would display correctly.

I am pleased to say that not only have we reproduced it, but we have it fixed internally now.

That's great news - and quick too :-)

Before I read that you had resolved it, I did a bunch of tests this morning.  I thought I'd share them in case it changes the implementation of your fix:

My system (the one with 4 monitors described above) is a laptop attached to an HP dock via Thunderbolt (providing 3 monitors) plus an HDMI port connected to the 4th.

  1. The laptop by itself has no problems
  2. The laptop with the HDMI (i.e. one external monitor plus laptop) has no problems
  3. Plugging in the docking station with the laptop screen open has no problems. (3 external plus the laptop screen = 4)
  4. Closing the laptop causes the problem.  Now all 4 monitors are external. The laptop screen is no longer on.

Hope that concurs with the fix you've made.  Being a new customer, I'm not familiar with your process.  How long do you generally take to release a fix like this?

About 6 months :)

Just kidding.  There is a possibility of a beta update later today, otherwise expect a beta update early next week.

Hi. Windows 11 22H2 preview here. One monitor only. v1.2 When I turn on enhanced taskbar all the apps are there and I can scroll to see all of them in second level which I like but no tray icons can be seen.  They are there because when I hover over them I get pop ups for them.  I have turned off all transparencies etc for taskbar.  Reboot no help.  If I turn enhanced off again the tray icons are there. Thanks.

If you use the insider preview you should ensure you are using 1.21 as it resolves some problems on that version.

The next update has further improvements.

That is exciting news. I look forward to seeing the new build.

ddmacpp-

The bug you are experiencing is related to having auto hide taskbar enabled. If you disable auto hide the tray icons should be visible.

It also sounds like a solution to that is perhaps around the corner once 1.22 is released

But hidden items in tray do not show.  The arrow pop up is there and a window pops up when clicking but the apps are not there. Thanks.

Hi again.  If you expand the taskbar from one to two levels then the hidden apps in tray do show.
