Clicking Start button opens original start menu instead of Start11

Hi,

5 out 10 times I click the start button the original Windows 11 start menu appears. If I click again Start11 appears underneath, then I have to click away to close original menu, for then to click again to open Start11... Really annoying.. This has only recently started happening, so perhaps it is caused by some update or something?

Uninstalling and re-installing didn't help.

Any tips?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. If you are not yet on V1.22, Please uninstall your current version, reboot and reinstall V1.22 Beta and see if the problem still there. Get the latest beta from your account product page.

So.., I have tried this for a while now and am still having major problems with the original Win11 menu popping up every other time I click the start button. I have recently reinstalled win 11 from scratch, installed the beta start11 and still the same.

What can this be? Am I the only one having problems with this?

Hello again, currently there is newer version comparing to my last post back in April. There is now V1.25 Beta, have you try that version?

Hi,

Yes, I am on V1.25 Beta now. Reinstalled everything yesterday but still having the same issues. Have tried turning on and off items under control after it continued, but it is still randomly opening windows original menu.

First do you have any other application installed that modified Windows Start menu and/or taskbar such as StartAllBack, ExplorerPatcher etc? If yes, please uninstall those application. Reboot and retest.

No, the only software I have for this is Start11. The Windows 11 installation is fresh as of yesterday.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

What version of Windows , not a Insider build is it ?

Can you post a screenshot or video of the issue please .

Here are two screenshot taken a second apart.

First the Start11 appears, then clicking brings up original Win 11 menu on top of Start11. (notice the outline under where the Start11menu is still present)

Not an insider build. Windows 11 Home, Version 21H2, build 22000.795

I just installed Start11 and I have found if you click the left half of the start button the Start11 menu pops up and if you click the right hand side of the button the native menu pops up.  It looks to be a pixel size issue with the Start11 software.  I came to the forum to specifically post on this issue.

I can't seem to pinpoint it to one specific part on my start button, it just randomly pops up instead of the Start11 menu. If I click again after the native menu is up, the Start11 menu often opens behind the native one as in the second photo..

It is so annoying and doesn't look like there is a fix for it?

Please install 1.25 as that has an update which might help.

I have reinstalled version 1.25, that's what I'm running now. No difference in behaviour.

Fresh install of windows 11 as well.

I experience the issue on my Surface Pro 7 when I use touch.  I rarely happens with the mouse.

It's a strange behavior indeed.  But I still prefer Start11 over the built in menu in spite of this.

Full disclosure...I'm on the latest Insider's Build and it isn't really a bother.

I have a Surface Pro 5 and have a similar experience but only when using the pen. In that case both the Start 11 and Windows menus open simultaneously all the time. Using finger touch or a mouse always works fine. This has happened for as long as I can recall and only when using the pen.

As I am on the Insider build, I have no expectation of a fix nor is it an issue for me. I just wanted to share this.

Thanks

Love the product!

I appreciate you are fine with this "feature", and Start11 is all-round a great improvement on the native menu, but I find this bug very annoying and the fact is it shouldn't be this way.

Mine do not open simultaneously, it is completely random which one comes up. Clicking the start button may bring up the native first, then I have to click on another part of the taskbar to get rid of it, then click the start button again which may or may not bring up the native or Start11 menu, and so on and so forth.. Not the way it should be.

I wonder, when your menus open simultaneously, how are you able to click on any of your icons on the menu that is underneath? I assume this is Start11, surely this must render that menu rather useless if it is always being covered by the native menu?

Again, like I said it only happens when I use the pen. Is that what you're experiencing? If it happens with finger touch and or the mouse, then I agree, you have a real problem. Also, I noticed that once I pen touch the original foreground menu then the next pen touches alternate between the Start 11 and original menus until I again click with the mouse or finger touch the menu icon in the taskbar.

I don't mind the "feature" as the alternatives are acceptable and the overall function of Start 11 is still much better than the alternative.

I was also simply curious if anyone else was experiencing this behaviour when using the pen on a Surface or any other pen based system.

I hope the developers will address/solve this issue for you.
