Closing out one program closes another?

I've been working on Microsoft Word documents with Google Chrome opened behind the program. When I click X to close one of the Word documents, it's as if it clicks through to the browser behind that window, and closes Chrome or any other program. I've only started having this issue once I downloaded Start11.

I also have the issue where clicking on the Word app in the taskbar to see the open files will instead cause the adjacent program files to appear. For example, Word and Adobe Reader are next to each other. I hover over the Word app to look at the open files and it instead shows me the file previews for Adobe. Clicking on the Word app icon does nothing. I can only see the preview for Word if I first hover over Adobe, then move my mouse to the left to hover over Word. Can anyone help figure out what's going on? Thank you!

That is very odd.  Windows wouldn't normally let a mouse message go to a window that's hidden under another window.

What version of Windows 11 (build number) and are you using the option in Start11 to enhance the taskbar?

Hi, currently using Windows 11 Pro OS build 22621.674. I toggled option to let Start11 enhance Taskbar, and Taskbar buttons should 'Always' be combined.
