Thanks Stardock

In light of yet another bout of anti-Stardock/WinCust abuse elsewhere online, I thought I'd spend a few moments giving my opinion on both the company and the people who have a hand in the skinning community.

I can't remember when I first discovered Stardock, but it was almost certainly through finding and playing with WindowBlinds some years ago. Since that time, I have always considered them to be a professional and friendly bunch of people who are always willing to listen to feedback and help out when things don't go quite to plan with their software.

I've never had cause to criticise them or to deny them the right to charge for their products, which are simply worth every penny of the money they ask for. I find those people who complain about the fact that they don't give everything away for free to be not only offensive, but downright stupid. To expect that a company put in the amount of time and effort that a project like Object Desktop requires, and then give the product away for free is not only absurd but unbelievably naive. We live in a world where money is a part of everything, and had Stardock not charged for their products, we would still be sitting here using an ancient version of WindowBlinds which did nothing more than change the titlebar buttons on a window. Stardock have pushed the boundaries of skinning through their research and development, and have in turn helped many other non-Stardock products evolve and prosper.

In the time that I've known him, I've always thought of Brad (Frogboy) as a level-headed intelligent person who, while occasionally speaking his mind a little too much, can always be expected to tell things the way they are and stick up for what's right in the skinning world. He'll defend his company and his products to death, but then wouldn't we all stick up for our 'children' if someone said a bad word against them?

As for the rest of the staff at Stardock, and in turn WinCustomize, over the past couple of years I have had the pleasure of getting to know several individuals pretty well. I've had praise and encouragment from people I never even expected to hear from, and the friendly comments still come even to this day. I've also made a lot of friends through this site, spurred on by the constant challenges of an ever-evolving platform for skinning which constantly manages to impress me, and without their help and ideas I probably never would have even finished my first skin.

So let's just give a moment to thank everyone at Stardock, and all the admins and moderators here at WinCustomize, for making our computer time that little bit more pleasurable. Thanks guys!

(And here endeth the brown-nosing for the day)

Yes, very well said. I've had WB since 1999, not sure how long with OD, but these products have changed my computing experience like no other. I can't STAND to sit down at a machine with no OD. heh.

I've never had cause to criticise them or to deny them the right to charge for their products, which are simply worth every penny of the money they ask for. I find those people who complain about the fact that they don't give everything away for free to be not only offensive, but downright stupid.

You know, every time I post about or try to help people with Stardock programs on another site I frequent, I get an IM from at least one idiot who's making fun of me for actually paying for the product, telling me where to get a "key gen", or both. You're right, it's just downright stupid. The OD price is a steal. Buy buy buy! >

I think that was about time. Well said. Greetings from a so called 'Stardock Fan Boy' and therefore banned from some other site on the net.

i missed the particular cause of all this. however, i have seen SO many "stardock is evil" and "wincustomize is evil" episodes that i suspect i know how this one went *sigh*

grayhaze, very well said!

as a general question, what ever happened to:
* noticing just how MUCH stardock give to the community for FREE?
* having respect for other people you see posting on message boards?
* accepting that other people can have different opinions to you, but are still worthy of respect and friendship?

either way, to continue grayhaze's post, i have been dealing with Stardock for many years now. in all that time i have only ever seen the company and the people behave in a kind and honourable way! more than that, i have come to call people both at stardock and here friend, and this is not a word i use lightly. so, please, stop insulting my friends for no good reason! it only makes you look like a twit.

perhaps we could have less egos saying "i am god, worship me" and more respect, kindness, understanding and compassion?

I love the buggers.
When this site first went up, I threw a hissy fit on the messageboard regarding Hoverdesk not being here.
I threw my toys out of the pram, took my ball and went home.
And that was just the stupidest, and most ignorant, thing I've done.

I was totally wrong, out of order, and if I recall, very rude to Brad.
In fact, I don't know if he even remembers me being an ass, but in any case, I'll apologise sincerely here to him publically.

Stardock are the skinners friend. No-one matter what the Neoweenies says. No-one matter what other certain freeware developers says (They know who they are{And they now also charge for their apps as well, stunningly enough...}). No-one matter what certain ex-big skin site admins say. (What? No, I don't know what happen to that person in question either....)
GUI Olympics is a perfect example of both Stardocks generosity, and the skinning scenes ignorance. (With regards to people implying there was some kind of hidden agenda behind Stardock shelling out over 10 grand and asking very little in return)

I'm proudly wearing the fanboy T-Shirt, and flying the fanboy flag.

I am relatively new to stardock products and I think the 50 dollors for Object Desktop was the best 50 bucks I ever spent for anything. Go Stardock!

Man, I never noticed the T-shirts. Now I am going to have to explain to my husband why I must have one.

I think I will go the route of I feel I have earned to wear one.

What do you think? Will that work?
I also have a Stardock T-Shirt. Too bad I never wear white. Need a black one.
