Fresh installation of Start11 in W11 & use Backup-RegFile - the sorting of the shortcuts is not adopted (only alphabetic)

Hello,

in Win10 with Start8 it works and the same on Win11 with Start11 also but one thing NOT ^^
Start11 lists the 10 shortcuts, so far ok, but only in alphabetical order. Explanation:

There are 10 shortcuts in the Start Menu folder in AppData: %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\Start Menu
The shortcuts are also displayed on the left side when i open start11 - then i moved the shortcuts one by one to the desired positions while holding down the mouse button:

0. Programme deinstallieren
1. Rechner
2. WhatsAppTray
3. Messenger
4. Word
5. Excel
6. Outlook
7. Air Explorer
8. NTLite
9. Oracle VM VirtualBox

Eeverything is fine. So i have backed up the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8
The entries are listed as follows in the registry file:

>> Klick for Screenshot << (Sorry i dont know how to add picture here) - as you can see, the numbers at the end of the line are correct
and have been set by Start11 itself. As mentioned, it also works after a restart. Here in short text form:

...Programme deinstallieren.lnk"="0"
...Rechner.lnk"="1"
...WhatsAppTray.lnk"="2"
...Messenger.lnk"="3"
...Word.lnk"="4"
...Excel.lnk"="5"
...Outlook.lnk"="6"
...Air Explorer.lnk"="7"
...NTLite.lnk"="8"
...Oracle VM VirtualBox.lnk"="9"

If I now do a new installation and run the BackupRegFile, everything fits - the 10 shortcuts are also displayed, but only in alphabetical order. So not how they should be arranged. Now it is:

Air Explorer
Excel
Messenger
NTLite
etc...

Why isn't this working anymore and if this is a desired change, please undo it as soon as possible! :-(
I would like to be able to determine the arrangement myself. Thanks a lot.

Have you tried simply dragging them into the order you want?

The order is based on exact paths in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Pinned so unless your user name is exactly the same the information will not be used when importing onto another machine.  Odds are you are using a MS account and the actual file path is different.

@Neil Banfield

Yes. Dragging works.. the order ist correct and also the path. I reinstalled to try again... and i don't know what to say...

...suddenly it works ^^ I apologize but i don't know what was the Problem.

I used the same files, etc. just reinstalled windows as a test and it worked. I test my installation stick in the VM. Sorry again I'll test it
one more time, if it works again then you won't hear from me again. If there's anything else, I'll let you know.

Many thanks to all of you! :inlove:

Is there a simple backup solution in the meantime? E.g. in a config file...

It works with the registry, but only with a fresh Windows installtion.

If I uninstall and installed Start11, reboot, reinstall and import the previously saved reg file,
everything is taken over, so it's the same as before, except for the order of the shortcuts.
Checked under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Pinned, correct, but it doesn't do that or ignores the settings.
Ok, that's not the big problem, i drag the shortcuts to the right place. Don't know what problem Start11 has there...
