not showing on desktop

Downloaded a handy email checker. It doesn't show up on the desktop. Any idea why? No error message, no invalid handle or anything. Seemed to load like a charm. Hmmm. Thanks.

Is it a DesktopX object? If so, look in the DesktopX program or directory on your PC. Or if it's an Object Dock thingy, look in the Object Dock directory. Except for walls, just about every skin/object here is related to some program. If you don't have the program it won't work. Look around in the library here that you downloaded it from for more information about the app the thingy is for and how to download the app.

Or if you have the proper app and it doesn't appear to be working post back providing more specific information.

Or if you downloaded another app not from this site, well you'll have to provide considerably more information about what you downloaded.

if it shows up on the system tray, have you right clicked the icon to see if there is an "configure, options or preferences" selection?

Well...I have the "Sputnik" theme by 'pipowell'. I've left it basically intact, but added a few elements...such as a weather object and a nifty little orb for the recycling bin. These show up, along with others that I've removed. But, the mail checker...Myopia Mail Notify Block and the MyStep Mail Notify Block, both are little mailboxes I thought were interesting. They do not show up. A different object for checking mail, which I didn't like, showed up fine, but these do not. I have DesktopX loaded up and all is working well. But this, I'm stumped. Thanks again for any ideas. It's not the end of the world, but I'd like to know why they aren't showing up.

I had what sounds like a similar problem with the "Recycleplace" object. I would load it, got no errors, but it wasn't there. It did show up when I Listed Objects though. From the list I chose it's properties, clicked on the last tab (Summary, I think), and type in new coordinates for the object. For some reason DX positioned it just off screen. So I just changed them to something near the middle and voila!

Hope that helps.

Yep, that did it. For some reason, the start point for the object was negative. A quick change and I'm happy again. Thanks for the help!
