Desktop X 2 and Supper Slow Loading Photoshop

When I am running DX2 and try and load Photoshop 7.0 from my Object Dock or start menu...it takes like 7 minutes and is NOT RESPONDING for Most of that time...It stalls after the logo say Initializing...My system (2.4 Ghz and 1 Gig of Ram on XP SP1)...Adobe Photoshop Normally loads in under 30 Seconds...As soon as I Unload DX2 Photoshop bounces right back from the Not Responding State and loads immediately...Has anyone elso had similar loag issues while working with DX?...If so any know work arounds or solutions

Thanx in Advance

no problem with dx2 and photoshop, but lately dx2 has been occasionally sucking upwards of 250 megs of ram before i had to restart it. I usually turn off objectdock and desktopx before using photoshop. Photoshop is a real memory hog.

I have found that ObjectDock interferes with ps7, making it load very slowly and respond slowly during use. If I quit ObjectDock whilst using Photoshop it returns to normal. DX doesn't seem to affect ps7 for me at all.

I haven't noticed OD affecting any other programs significantly.

It could very well be Object Dock and not Desktop X...I need to do some more tests...but man it is killing my machine...literally grinding it to a halt when I run Photoshop

Thanx for your responses

I am going to ask a stupid question here.

If DX has all these problems why bother using it?

Well, if you know its stupid...why bother asking it?

I said that to cover my but so I would not get flamed with that exact question Hus.

IMHO if any of my programs took that much RAM to run I would get rid of it until they fixed it so it works with less then 50 megs of RAM.

Just a curious question.

I will stick to my WB.

Oh and by the way there is no such thing as a stupid question.

The only stupid question is the one not asked. How can we learn without asking questions?

Kona.......DX has come a long way since you most probably last used it.

From a standing start i am running 6 of the Xmas goodies including the revolving snowflakes with a max CPU usage of about 25%-30% on an AMD XP2400 chip. There are some non DX background programmes as well which are included in this figure. I thought these 6 objects would thrash my CPU and RAM but they do not. They do not interfere with any other programmes and when starting any program there is very little time delay. BTW i only have 512mb of RAM.

I think you recently acquired another machine - why not give DX2 a try. I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

Used it 3 days ago then stopped using it.

Why do you guys think I do not use Stardock stuff?

Been there, done that.

Because I like WB better and only have 192 megs RAM and DX has nothing to offer me that I do not already have.

I use rainy for my calendar
I use Sysmetrix for my meters
I use Object Dock for my Dock

On my system DX is using 4 megs, If you have thousands of objects it can get big, but i run Photoshop dayly and have not had anyproblems. What OS are you running?

Kona, DesktopX uses a LOT less resources than Objectdock does.
I have only 128 Megs of RAM on a 333 Mhz machine at home and I run Desktop X without even noticing any difference at all in performance. Objectdock, on the other hand... Oh boy!!

My Object Dock is only sucking down 3 megs right now.

I have DesktopX running on XPHome SP1

Ram usage is 13 meg and cpu is 0%. I have all the Christmas Time objects running except the revolving snowflake.

Memory starts to become a problem with ObjectDock though.

Maybe it is just my settings I use with Object Dock. Always on bottom, no mouseover, no animations.

It never uses more than 5 megs of memory.

DX just crashed my computer (again)

Back to Window Blinds.

Photoshop is a memory hog without a doubt and I also would make a bet on it being ObjectDock doing the deed...

Something you might want to do with Photoshop 7.0 is do the update to 7.01 because it fixes a few bugs which are not directly connected to memory use, but do have some connectoins to file saving and also re-enabling the alpha channel which got dumped in 7.0...
