Looking for an anti-spyware prog.....

Probably 2 or 3 weeks ago there were some who were talking about a spy ware program that I wanted to try, but for the life of me cannot remember the name of it.

I was hopeing that maybe some knew of the prog of which I speak. The only thing I can remeber about it is that the name started with a 'W'; so you see why I can't even do a seacrh on the board.


Sure would like to find and test this prog.

There two that seem very popular and these are,

Spybot and Adaware

Try a Google search for them

i run both spybot and adaware. one always finds something the other dosent...im a gamer and bandwidth/performance is extremely important to me. the spy ware sites use eats up available band width and cpu time (in certain cases). in extreme cases also can give u denial of service.(thats when you get this message)--------------->

if ur net speed semms to be slowing or ur getting quite a few of the above messages u prolly have an excess of spy ware on ur pc.

what is a spy bot ?
a spy bot is a cookie or prog/registry setting. that reports your web site surfing back to the website and or ad maker. its used to track where u go on the internet so they can find the most popular sites and get their ads on those sites. while it may be great for advertisers.. its a total invasion of your privacy and as i stated earlier (in extreme cases)they can have dire consequences on ur systems performance.


how do they get on my pc ?
..1. going to just abt any web site that has a add banner. they are commonly in the form of modified cookies.
2.instaling freeware/trial progs. many of the freeware or trial progs now have spy bots that are installed with them.( some of the spy bots are directly built in to the freeware progs and if removed will stop the ability to use the prog)) so u must decide if that freeware is worth keeping the spy bot ..
