Weird desktopX behaviour.

In DX Confiq. unlock icons and under 'Security' tab check disable right click.

Dx config, 'Unlock Icons'? I can open DXconfig, but I can't see that. I can select each icon individually and select 'unlock', but that still has no effect.

Please advise.

OK I can see the tab for default movement and currently it is set on normal and not locked.

In any case as far as I know the 'locked' option simply locks the icons on the desktop so that they can't be moved at all - it doesn't do anything to help the fact that currently if I move one icon, they all move. What I wonder is causing this?

In DX config under 'DesktopX' tab check 'Normal' movement. You can then right click each icon under properties and check 'lock' 'default' or 'normal'.

...they're only locked if all your icons are set to 'Default'

Does anybody know why when I import objects into my desktopx environment they appear to become locked or related to several other objects on my desktop I have recently imported, so that when I move one icon, they all move al the same time. It is a very annoying behaviour.

Also is there a way I can hide the right click desktopx menu selections? I mean even the ones to exit desktopx and to restart it? I am building a desktop for my daughter and I don't want these options visible to her.

So my icons are NOT locked... I can select normal behaviour from DX config and individually select each icon and select normal behaviour too. But still when I move one, they all still move together. That isn't quite the same as locking. Locking just pins the icons to the desktop so they can't be moved at all - not so that they move all together at the same time.

They seem to be acting as one object rather than several seperate objects.

Perhaps my problem is a little clearer now?

Yeah...it sounds like you have a 'Theme' loaded instead of just 'Objects'. You tell me.

Yes I have a mac OSx theme - and I downloaded several individual OSX icons (or objects). I got them from deviant art. I downloaded each object/icon individually (although this is where it get's confusing slightly, since they are not really just icons, they are infact premade objects - and yes I did download them from the desktopx objects section - not the themes section).

As I said each object/icon came one at a time and therefore were too small to consitute an entire theme.

I have noticed that desktop X seems to be assigning them to the group 'dock', whatever that means.

It seems it thinks these icons belong to a dock of some kind and should be grouped together.

However the author of these objects mentions nothing about this - and as such touts them as simple objects for desktopx.

Again right now, if I move one icon, they all move.

Is there no way at all round this? Or do you know perhaps of a link to a comprehensive OSX icon/object pack that you know to work?

OSX icons I think are part of a Dock theme, someone else can chime in if they know different. Having said that, I don't think your problem is DX. It has no dock abilities unless you load a theme and then are very limited. My guess is the imported icons are being thrown around by one of the other proggies you have loaded. Try getting rid of all the objects and then load one of the DX objects (just pick any DX object) and see if it still does it.

yes the osx icons belong to a dock that was made by jonmega (I think) for desktopx. At least that is probably the case.

Thanks... But that is all kind of vague... 'Thrown around' is hardly the right words for it. Simply, if you will imagine single clicking (or highlighting an icon) and then moving it with your mouse, only to find that doing so caused all the other icons on your desktop to move in also. They do not get randomly 'thrown around', they appear to be attached to a grid, so that moving one causes the entire grid to move. It only happens in desktopX - and I don't have too many applications other than desktopX installed at this time, as it is a fresh install of Windows XP.

As for application icons/objects... Yes there are a few included with this theme, but they are hardly extensive - and only cover a very few of the most basic applications that I plan to install. I was rather hoping for something more comprehensive.

It is worth noting perhaps that the above issue does not affect all my icons - only this set I downloaded from deviant art.

If anyone can offer any input, it would be very much appreciated.

the icons are not just icons. They have been specifically configured to be in the dock form. Therefor moving them will move the whole dock. Try holding ctrl while dragging them

Hmm, so these icons think they should exist together, and therefore when moved should move together? Erm.. yeah.. that makes kind of sense I guess. Is there any way to change this behaviour and dissasocite the icons from each other so that they can be moved independantly?

Yep that worked. Thanks! Now all I have to do is find a nice fat OSX /object/icon package...

try holding ctrl while dragging them. To dissassociate them you nead to right click on one of them and choose to ungroup them,
