Message Board Revamp

With the coming of the New Year I would guess that quite a few things are going to change here at WC, including layout of the site.

I know that just about everything gets posted in General Discussion vs. Help or Skinning where some stuff should get posted. What about changing when you click on the Message Board link at the top of the site, having it bring you to a page with links to General, Skinning and Help with descriptions of what types of post to use each board for? Also, move the sticky posts to this page as well.

BTW I like the current layout just trying to think of a way to get better use out of the other two message boards and reduce the number of sticky posts here

Essencay, thanks for suggesting this. I had brought up a similar idea before, when the discussion was on about starting the three sections. I hadnt thought of having the sticky posts on that page! Good idea. In addition to the sticky posts, perhaps the top five threads as well? Maybe not, but I think the stickies are a must. Good work essencay!

There's already plans to revamp the messageboard, and expand it to include more sections.

Sometimes I think an ignore function might be handy, although it might result in a drop in the sales of popcorn.

There's already plans to revamp the messageboard, and expand it to include more sections


People don't use all the ones we have now

After the revamp, it will harder to ignore the different sections, and the Mods will be able to move misplaced threads to the section they belong.

I have no idea what is being considered or how the programming works or what it would entail, but the ability for Admins to move threads to the more appropriate board (perhaps with a note in the thread's original place that the thread has been moved) might help encourage use of the topic specific boards.

Edited to add: ah just saw that the issue was addressed while I was dithering about with this post. Cool.

The simplest thing to do might to have a drop-down box appear when you click 'Message Board' showing the different sections. As it is, you go to the general on by default. Speaking for myself; I didn't even notice the other sections for a while.

I asked the same thing since I think there's no better way for someone on dialup to keep up with all the board sections. (I use SDC, but it's the same thing) The answer was yes. We will have more buttons linking to the different sections.
