Fences 4 Update stuck on 0 Bytes

Hello,

When either prompted to update, or going to About > Check for Updates and then clicking Download and Install, it never downloads and sits at 0 Bytes Ive been having this problem for quite some time and in the past have just been uninstalling and manually installing the newer version.

I'm thinking this is something to do with my network or router firewall but not sure what addresses i can allow or test ping to rule that out.

I also have fences4 on my work laptop and while i am using it at home, it also will not update, but it does update when I'm at the office, which re-enforces my thought on this being a network problem.

If possible can someone provide the url/ip/endpoint that i can do a ping test on and allow through my router/dns server?

Thanks

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. If you tried download it directly from your product page, does it work? https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

Thanks

Hello,

Just tried again, same result.

Go to your downloads directory.  If there is a 'Stardock' folder there, delete it and try again.

Per reply #7 i do not have this folder.

With this said, i renamed this file
"C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Fences4\Update\Fences4_setup_sd.exe"
and tried the in app Check for updates and it redownloaded the setup file and successfully installed version 4.21.
Since the in app update worked, i deleted the setup file that i renamed.

I suppose i will have to wait for the next update to be released to see if the automatic update prompt works, or if i need to delete the file again.

That might show something is blocking that file from being replace with newer version. Might be your security software it preventing that. Just my thought on that.

I did consider that, but these days i only run windows defender and it didnt try to sandbox the file or anything as far as i can tell.
Was wondering if it was just an issue with that version of fences perhaps not deleting the existing file prior to trying to download a new copy and getting stuck not being able to over write or something but just guessing at this point.
