Start 11 v2 blocking part of available vertical desktop space.

Hi,
After upgrading start11 to V2 I've been noticing a bug. I am using start 11 mostly because of the ability to put taskbar on the top position of my screen, and make it smaller. It works fine, but when my screen goes to sleep, or turn it off and then wake it up, at the bottom of the desktop is this invisible bar of a height of regular Windows taskbar, that blocking my windows to have full height. I can move cursor there, but no way to resize them in that area, full screen apps work well, maximized windows are ok too. It goes away after restarting explorer in the app or restarting PC.

Before V2, never notice such a behavior.

Best regards!
Lukas.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need to know its full version numbers. Use Winver.exe.
  2. Start11 v2 full version number.
  3. Taskbar on top with Autohide on or off?

Thank you.

Hello again,

I can't seem to reproduce the issue on my system. I believe it is best for you to try update the Start11 v2 to version 2.02. Screen shot look the same before and after sleep/wake cycle. Start11 v2.02 should be available here: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

So, I installed 2.02 and problem still exist :/,
Is there any way I can help to find or replicating it, do you need any additional info.
One thing is maybe it is because I use Power Toys - Fancy zones, I am quite sure you know what it is.

Best Regards!

Do know that now we have v2.03 https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. I am using Fancy Zones on my Windows 10 system and I don't see the issue on it. I will setup Fancy Zone on my Win11 and see if the issue be there.

Meanwhile you can try cleanboot: https://forums.stardock.com/505872/start11-support-faq#cleanboot

I tested it yesterday in safe boot, but was unable to run Start 11, or rather see the effects.
Applications runs when I start it, I see settings panel of Start11, but my Windows 11 native taskbar, icons and whole thing did not change a bit, so I don't know. Maybe I did something wrong?

That *.bat file runs, but give me errors.

Today I will do it one more time.

And 2.03 still have same bug on regular run, works fine, turn on and off of screen, and bottom part of desktop is locked. It is not a huge deal, just wanted to let you know I have something like that since v2.0 in v1.xx never saw anything like that, and I was using it since July 2023.

I just would like to report that I don't see your issue on my Windows 11 with Fancy Zone active.

Need to know why Safe boot don't work on your system?

Safe boot worked, but I was not able to force Start11 v2 to change anything visually, Start11 started, I was able to set options, but it has no effect on the look of the system.

However, I created a new user today, and started Start11, and after turning the screen off and on, the bug effect was there, part of the desktop was locked. Then after 5-10s the desktop blinked/refreshed itself, and I was able to resize the window in that area again. So I don't know why it does not do it the same on my regular user.

I will try to purge S11, reboot and install it from scratch.

Please check and verify that in Windows Taskbar setting Autohide behaviour is off. Just turn if on and off again. Reboot and see any changes. If it still there try these.

  1. Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.
  2. Type: sfc /scannow
  3. Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.
Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for suggestions!

Autohide is off for both, original windows taskbar and for start11, I never use it anyway.
I made sfc command, it finds some errors but fixed everything.
I did not make this "dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" because sfc has no problems.
Furthermore, I restarted the PC and problem still exist :), only solution I know is to open S11v2 and pick option to restart explorer, or manually restarting explorer.

I think I will go back to Start11 V1 :)
