Evenally, computing power will finally surpass human brain ( 4 quadtrillion calulations per second, appox ), maybe by then A.I. will be possible.

I doubt that'll happen in 10 years, however. maybe 50 years?

That is a scary thought. Just how many movies plots revolove around the fall of mankind because of A. I.?

But then If we come up with androids like Data, that would be cool.

For some reason I doubt the accuracy of the evil ai. In human society the most intelligent people are usually the most considerate and peaceful because they can accurately guess the outcome of their decisions and actions over a long period of time. They understand that if they do something bad that either a)it will make them feel bad because they have emotions and a correct sense of morality or the action will snowball and will eventually hurt them. If a computer can surpass the intelligence of human wouldn't it be logical that they too would be peaceful.

You are correct for the most part, Travis.... But these benevolent scientists need financing to continue their research. The financing is often provided by military agencies who do not share their forethought. An all out A.I. war machine is somewhat scary, even if it was created by a peace-loving people.

yes, but I am sure that the intelligent scientist will think out a way to keep world destruction from happening by the hands of their creation. Either that or the evil ai will become like the nuclear bombs. Einstein didn't realize the horror that his ideas would produce and was mollified when they dropped the bombs on japan. Let us hope that these scientists have enough forethought to keep another international crisis from happening. Einstein had no idea what would happen as a result of the nuclear bombs nor did any of the other scientists working on it, but the cold war did happen. and now we have experience to build off of and learn from.

Just as Einstein could not realise the horror his ideas would later create, neither can someone now realise his future.

That's exactly what SCI-FI is for, the possibility exploration.

Now, since theres a lot of movies on bad A.I. theres less chance of that happening, since scienists ( in least ones who read sci fi ) will be wary.
