If anyone is interested

and has some time one their hands...

I will get flamed for this thread but I am prepared for that.

As most people know, I converted some simple images for various games and websites and made them into useable dock icons. I also state in every one of my listings that they are not my images and I take no credit for them.

I think they look like crap.

So would there be someone here who can help me make them look better? I have tried my hand at PSP and The GIMP with no success.

BTW I look on this as a learning experince and a chance to let others help me.

The thing I've always thought about you is I don't want to see stuff you've copy pasted, I want to see stuff you've made. I wouldn't worry about making those look better, I'd try seriosly making your own. You've got the tools to do so, methinks it's time to put em to use. Though myself and most others will be useless unless we know what you're trying to do with the program, but just making something look good isn't enough to go on.

well I guess I could start with something simple like a deck of cards for a card game and go from there.

I wonder.

Well I just fired up PSP. so how do I set it up so I have a 128 x 128 image to work with? I can figure every thing else out. I have been playing with it for some time now ever since Koasati told me I could try it before I buy it. I like it alot better than The GIMP.

my suggestion is to try to use vectors and draw over the other icons to make your own. then once you get proficient start making your own. Vectors are very useful for making small things because you can draw the icon very large and since vectors don't lose quality as they change size you could then make them very small and they should still look decent. Another way is to start small and add detail as you get the icons larger. but since you are just making dock pngs it really doesn't matter how you do it. And I think psp has a very good vector system.

Randy is a good one to help you for sure

If kosati is helping then you should be fine, it'll be nice to see what you make of it. If it was photoshop I'd be able to help, I've rarely ever used psp. Oh well, can't wait to see your original work. Trust me once you feel the satisfaction in doing your own work, you'll never go back to the way it was before.

I'd be willing to help you with SS if you would like, depending on what sort of skin you want to create. . Of course, I'm always learning new things myself but I'd be willing to share what I know.

I'm also always contactable on ICQ or email.
