LCD Monitors and Wives

Yesturday I had the opportunity to work on my boss' computer (she has a 17 inch LCD monitor, I have a 17 inch CRT monitor), and I was BLOWN AWAY! The sharpnes, the clarity, even on tiny type was excellent. My question is: How do I convence my wife (who thinks of a computer as just a tool) that $400 or so dollars is NOT unreasonable for a monitor?

Any good reasons, advices (is that a word?), or rationales will be appreciated.

Well, I can always wait another year for them to come down in price a little more.

My dad always said, (when it comes to new technology) Wait one to two years after the technology hits the common market. By then the price will have come down to a reasonable range and it will be more affordable.
Thus far, most everything in the technology market has done just that, come down to more affordable prices.
Plus, the wait will make the end result that much sweeter.

Maybe I'm strange but I rate 'wives' higher than LCD monitors so I'll wait for her approval rather than 'its'...

Don't be a pistol whipped pussy.....just do it.......get down that store now and pick yourself up a nice Hercules 15 or 17 inch number....And on the drive home pick up a tin hat from your hardware store.....you are going to need it......you could always sweeten the blow with some ideas of how to spend an equal amount of money on her and the kids on a holiday or something for the house which they would enjoy

Also a good excuse for having a girlfriend just kidding

Leo's Idea is a good one. My wife and I spend on ourselves the same way. So when I want a new toy, I just have to decide if I can afford to double the cost.

Another excuse is that the price of lcds are rising because of the demand. They were the cheapest about a month ago

OMG!!! I have just spent the last 5 minutes LMAO!!!! There is no easy way to get that LCD from the sounds of it. But I do like the wine and dine theory myself...but as I am the wife here, and my hubby asked if he could have one, well, I would jump on that band wagon and go!!!!!

I seem destined to hi-jack this thread one way or another.

If either my wife or I want to spend that kind of money, we discuss it first. Then we decide whether or no that's a priority for us right now. That's what marriage is - a partnership. Making decisions with your partner isn't being whipped, it's courtesy. Neither is Jane the wrong woman for me as we agree on most things. (If we don't agree, she'll happily explain my error ).

I have to agree with Jafo here. My wife and my daughters are a whole bunch more important than any toy, no matter how appealing. So, in an attempt to bring this back on-topic, my view would be to discuss the purchase and why you want it then decide if that's an appropriate use of funds.

of course, in 2 years we'll have holographic desktops... or at the least, stuff from Minorty Report. and it'll cost even more. so... get someone outdated and cheap, or go through the same debate over something incredibly better?

good luck

I hear ya, man.

Only single guy call that being whipped. So, if that's whipped then I LIKE IT!

not really, if you wait, you will see the new stuff and then you will wait for those prices to drop.

slickdeals.net has nice deals on everything.

you need a "boys toys" money stash which only you control. my wife also has one which i can't touch or discuss.

BTW: if you tell your better half that your pants make her rearend look fat, she'll probably give them back to you.

HG, you want to buy the alienware with the 30"?? Let me tell you something; you are crazy.

First of all, I think its a plasma, but I am not sure about that.
The max resolution of the thing is something like 1280X1024, witch is pretty low for 30".

CRT vs. LCD framerate refresh or whatever they call it. Isn't it better with a CRT?
