Update Installs Require Reboot

I have owned as license to use Start11 for about two months now.  In that time, I have had received two updates.  For every update I have received, I have to reboot Windows.

I am requesting that you please come up with a way of performing an update without the need for a reboot.

Unfortunately Windows is Windows and it locks files in some random processes sometimes which needs a reboot to replace.

It is the same as if Windows needs to install updates I am afraid.  Any app which extends the operating system is liable to run into this.

Even without the locked file issue we would be forced to restart the entire explorer process for a Start11 update.

Okay.  I had an update last night, and I did not reboot due to playing music via my audio player that I am still doing right now.

It looks like Start11 is working post the update right now, and I will have to start work soon.  From a user level, it looks like that pending reboot is not very important.

The pending reboot is in fact critical.  Until you reboot the files that do things (ignoring the config window) will not have been updated.

So it's not as simple as restarting explorer.exe and Start11? Curious which other files that Start11 depends on are also locked, is there a list?

I just had an update of Start11 version 2.11 downloaded and installed.  Again, it demanded a reboot during my work day.  I refused the reboot request, ended all running explorer.exe processes via Task Manager, and using Task Manager launched explorer.exe.

Just as in the past, Start11 is working perfectly with no issues without rebooting.  About shows Start11 version 2.11 is successfully running.  Now I will see how long I can continue to successfully use Start11 without rebooting.  My previous record was over one week without rebooting and no issues.

It is highly likely that you are in fact using v 2.1 dlls not 2.11.

If a file is locked during install it will only be replaced on the reboot and the OS is set to perform this.  The config is not locked (unless running), so that will be updated and thus show you the new version.

Please do reboot when convenient as otherwise your install is not really using the new files.  We really do not ask for reboots just for fun.
