Thank you for your feedback on the download limits. This is very much a matter of thresholds in that while you've got some 50MB of downloads (from some of the top skinners and authors on the planet), at the end of the day, somebody has to pay for the bandwith and servers to provide them.

There are lots of different options for products you can purchase from Stardock that will remove that limit. Be that purchasing DesktopX, IconPackager, ObjectBar, WindowBlinds, or the full Object Desktop suite (which includes all of the above and more).

There are also subscriptions directly to WinCustomize, which get you access to premium suites, an integrated skin browser, and more features as WinCustomize evolves.

If you hit the download cap, you've downloaded 50MB of goodies and haven't offered anything back. Be that by purchasing a WinCustomize subscription, Stardock products, or by participating in the community and creating new content.

Also, a good thing to remember, there are products that are less than $10 that can be purchased that will not only give you a great product, but will also get rid of the download cap.

It's also hard to imagine why somebody would download so much if they didn't have registered software to use it on........

exactly what 'deal' have they not stuck to?If you have a sub.,then you have unlimited dl's.You dont have to buy anything else.Dont like Stardock 'crap',dont use it or buy it,no one altered the deal.What policy do you expect them to change?

Ok, as a self professed download junkie, I was also a little p.o.'ed when i hit the limit.
which sent me off in search of fresh prey to hunt.
well, as a major DesktopX lover,, There isn't anything else out there. Really.
Even awesome sites like deviantart don't have the stuff that is here.
in terms of quality, quantity, and cleaness of site. there isn't ANYTHING that matches WC.
And with the internet changing and more and more sites requiring you to "register" to use them
"fee" sites were only a matter of time.

You can take your chances at other sites and register and download garbage or nothing at all. (and then have your email address sold and get flooded with spam, "see, you pay one way or another")

or come here, cough up a couple bucks and/or upload and give back.

Hitting my download limit was a bit of a revelation to me,, "hey self" i says to my self, "you've been wanting to learn to make your own stuff so now is the time,, it's time to give back.. after all, your modem goes in both directions you know"

so myself says to me "ok,, lets do it"

So in short, the quality of this site (go ahead and compare) is worth a couple bucks and/or a few K/upload.

Subscribers are level 4........ so, did you really purchase a subscription? If yes, then you have failed to cross reference your email accounts?

If you weren't aware that some Stardock products are shareware, that's not anyone's fault but yours.... you must do your own thinking.

It's akin to signing up for the "coffee of the month club", and then complaining because you have to buy a coffee maker.

Hi.....I was going to buy the $50 cd-rom soon (waiting for wife to give allowance). But I have a question. Actually, I'm not really interested in desktop x2 so I may just buy icon packager and w4...anyway...along with this cd, are you required to supscribe to the site as well? Please help me understand.

what is an "integrated skin browser"?

mrupallnite you are not required to subscribe to this site. If you are interested in having unlimited downloads, just purchasing a single Stardock application will give you that when you cross-reference your purchase with your account here

if you buy the cd you become a level 3 user here. that means you have unlimited downloads. If you buy a subscription you become level 4 and along with the unlimited downloads you get the wincustomize browser (another program which lets you browse winc in style), the wincustomize systray object which can notify you when new things are uploaded, you can get some premium suites, and you can rate. I think those are the differences. you do not need a subscription to wc but it does add some benefits.
