Icon problems

sometimes icons don't show

Hi,

When I add a new quicklaunch dock, I get three icons by default. How do I add these (system-) icons to any other dock at a later time?

I just tried to answer this question myself and created a new dock, with the intention to just drag one of the three item to the other dock where I wanted it. But to my surprize, the newly created dock did not show icons for the three items. I had to go in an manually add items to the items.

Also, I noticed that if I drag a URL from the Chrome or Brave browser (to the left of the https://...) the item is created but without an icon. Same when I have a shortcut to a URL on the desktop and drag this onto a dock, I get an item without an icon.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I know the first default icon is "Start Menu" this you can add by right click on tab-> add->Docklet-> Start Menu docklet.

Not sure why it don't work on your system. But I can always drag icons from a dock to another dock. Unless you have turn on the "Lock icon dragging" function.

On URL issue, this I can reproduce, I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Hi,

very disappointed - another 2+ years later and I still have to manually add the site icon (or any icon for that matter) to a link created by dropping a url onto a dock  :-(

We've been able to reproduce this and are likewise surprised that this is a thing. Going to work to narrow down the situations where this occurs to get it resolved. Just for reference, which app do you have for opening webpages?

Realistically, we should consider special-casing web icons so that they're user-adjustable as a default. Perhaps it can remember the last set icon for such a webpage and use that for future shortcuts. Given that the default icon that it had used previous when working – the default browser's icon – might not be what they'd always want. Simpler option might also just be, looking for a static png on disk and using it by default if found, that is user adjustable.

Hi Dr. W,

Thank you for sticking with me. I am mostly using Brave, but I also tried Chrome and Edge — with the same result.

As for what icon to display: the perfect option would be the favicon for the site, if it has one. The browser already knows that icon because when I drag from the address bar, that icon is loaded under the cursor (I try to attach a screen grab)
