How to Allow Multiple Instances of App or Folder with Click of Taskbar Icon

Only able to open one instance after changing PC

Good day all,

I'm currently on Windows 10 Pro.

In my previous PC, anything I put on the taskbar I could open by clicking on it, allowing multiple instances.

For example, I usually have the File Explorer, Excel and Firefox Icon on the taskbar.

If I clicked on the File Explorer, one instance would open up. Clicking on it again would bring up another instance of it.
The same for any other icon I add to the taskbar.

However, after changing my PC, this no longer happens. If I were to click on File Explorer again, it just minimizes it.

I have tried messing with both Windows as well as Start10 settings to see if I can change this behaviour, but no go.

Hoping one of you can help me!

TIA!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I do believe this is normal on current version of Windows. What you can do is right click on the taskbar button and click on the program name on that menu to launch another Windows for that same application. And, you could also do "Shift"+click on that taskbar button.

thanks

Did you have Quick Launch set up on your previous computer  by chance?  Basically a separate toolbar that you could put whatever shortcuts in there and when clicked it would bring up a new instance of that application.  I had that set up on my Windows 7 and 10 computers and loved it.  I don't think some people realize that muscle memory is a real thing and very difficult to get over  **looks over at MS....yeah you!**

Here are some directions I found via Google on Windows 10.
