PC crash after boot screen

*Cries* Hello all, hope you can help.

A couple of hours ago, I downloaded my first ever Bootskin. Thinking I was doing well, I made a backup of the original file, restarted in safe mode, and installed my new skin as instructed.

However, when I came to reboot to test it out, I got up to the boot screen, it finished doing its business and then my PC decides it wants to restart. I am stuck in this loop with it restarting as soon as the boot screen is done, and I can't even start in safe mode . I'm currently using my old PC to write this.

What I need is to get into Windows in order to put back the original Bootskin file. Is there anything you guys can recommend?

Firstly Delete the file you installed from ThemeXP, then copy the ntoskrnl.exe that you originally saved elsewhere to the same place on the hard-drive and then reboot, it should work.

Since I have a a *coughcrackedcough* copy of XP, I'll wait until later tonight so I can get hold of a copy.

have fun with the broken xp. When you crack things they usually don't always work right. Also advertising that you have a cracked copy isn't a good idea. I suggest that either you go buy a real copy or revert back to whatever legal copy you had before.

I always feel amused how people that have absolutely no clue with computers deal with hacked versions of anything ("Hey, it's free !") and leave their machine unusable. Sorry, but that was well deserved. Next he would have asked how to get a warez version of Object desktop...

i don't think that is worth exiling for. he just needs to learn right from wrong. It is worth bothering him about it if he ever shows back up and hasn't changed it

Hahaha, nothing wrong with using a cracked Micro$oft product . Nothing is physically wrong with it, just one unrelated incident .

Anyway, back to the problem. I can't gain any access to my C: drive ... all I get is 'Invalid drive specification' or 'bad command or filename', it's as if it isn't there .

It was a personal choice to use a crack version of an OS, I hadn't done before, but now I have. I personally don't think I've done anything wrong, whether or not you feel like that is not the issue. All I want, if your willing to give it, is your help on my problem, which isn't anything to do with the officiality of my copy of XP.

Hilarious (!)

Maybe if I had had an extra $299 (whatever that converts to in Pounds) after buying a £800 machine, plus £200 for a monitor and the cost of other peripherals, I might have bought an official copy. I have a proper copy on this machine, but $299 is a lot of money for a seventeen year old ...

Kona, I do understand where you're coming from on the legality of it all. I know I could have bought it, yes. But as said above, it's a lot of money for something is just as easily gained via a crack.

An answer to my problem would really be appreciated.
