it could be that his cmos batter is going dead .. iv seen pc's do sum weird crap when the cmos battery is goin out. its not like a RC car where the battery just poohs out .. its a long slow process that can drive ya crazy when all else fails check the battery. its usually the last thing looked at and in many cases the first thing going out. iv even gotten batteries fresh out the box that were half dead and dieing quickly ... ........ ....

Explorer crashing is nothing odd.  that error is, though.  That looks more like a hardware failure than anything software.  I would make sure that you back up everything.  I think that you may be in the market for a new drive soon.  What brand drive do you have?

Travis went to sleep. I figured out what was happening. I had downloaded the Chinese Spring Festival Iconpack. I saved the folder to my desktop. Then I opened the folder and clicked apply. IT all worked good. Then I decided my desktop was cluttered and cleaned it off. In the process I moved that folder with the spring icons in it. It seems that Iconpackager didn't make a new folder in the iconpackager directory with the icons in it and was looking for the icons on the desktop. Since it is explorer that looks for the icons it got lost looking for them since they weren't where they were. Now I have put the whole folder where it is supposed to be and everything is fine. As I said before I know it isn't serious because 1)my gorilla suit is hanging over in the closet without any problems 2)my explorer wasn't sober last night. 3) when I beat up my explorer he started working again. 4) I have restarted succesfully. 5) I am typing this 6)you can read this 7)isn't this enough reasons.

I have duplicated the error now several times.

Lady crissy14:

I now have three main drives D, D with a subdrive D, and copy of D. All three have windows directories.

Hmm sounds like you got a virus.

Did you check system for viruses recently?

I find it funny, that you got this error which could of been catastrophic, and without a single thought of troubleshooting you decided to post it here When I tell you I worked with three physical drives all dying for several months. In the case of your drive failing, you would of heard a BIOS beep code then Windows frezing. It's cool it was something simple.

Christine, you have three physicals all named D? Did you format the other two before formatting the primary? You might try a low level format.

I did troubleshoot and found the error before I posted, I was afraid to touch my computer when it first popped up. I just played you guys on for a little bit. But it was a really strange message. almost like windows popping up a message and saying that your monitor can't be found, and then you ask yourself "How am I looking at this message?"
What I think happened is that since iconpackager creates a new registry value for the c:\ icon and I removed that icon from its place when I applied the icon theme that it couldn't find the icon and it stopped looking for the drive. That doesn't make much sense on Microsoft's part if thats true.

now back to learning dxscript.
