Display lost its colour - all grey now

G'day all. I have been happily using Desktop X and WindowBlinds 4 for a number of months. All seemed to be working fine. This evening, my PC monitor is suddenly showing only partial colour on icons and none at all on background pics. It's gone grey.

The Windows XP starts normally, with all colour and resolution I expect. Then part way through loading Desktop X and WB4, everything loses its colour except for a few icons. The mouse seems to also act like a grey eraser, changing any coloured icon into a grey one when I mouseover. Very puzzling. Any ideas what has gone wrong?

Probably time for a new graphics card

Go into Display Properties and make sure it's on 32-bit color. If it is, drop it down to 16 or 24 and see if it makes a difference.

Hm. Thanks. I was afraid of that. The machine *is* a bit old. Anybody know a way of testing it - a software app, maybe or else a sequence of steps to isolate if it's truly aging hardware or maybe just software conflicts?

Thanks.

Thanks for 32-bit tip. Just tried it and other than looking garish, it's still doing its grey thing. Any other ideas?

Thx.

I think his 'puter blew . I would guess he's using onboard graphics and tried new drivers on them. In any case, we may never know........

I've found that a 5 pound sledge works wonders on a monitor gone grey!
