Uploading a Desktop Theme -- newbie with a few questions

I marvel at the quality of excellent work available here at Wincustomize. That said, I've captured a pleasant combination of skins and applications that others may enjoy.

Q: I take no credit for the work used in my theme - do I need to contact every skinner for permission to use their work in my theme? -- I did use Theme Manager to capture links etc (I think

)

Q: I took a "print screen" snapshot of my theme -- is this what everyone else does for their previews?

Q: Any suggestions, tips or watch-outs?

If you plan to use other people's work then yes, you need their permission. Contact them by e-mail, they'll either say yes or no!
Print screen is the way to do it, just remember to save as a jpg as that is the file type required for previews.

I thought that you didn't need permission to use another artists objects or skins in a theme if you haven't midified them because the theme manager links to actual object on wincustomize. I thought that you only need mention that the parts are not yours.

If it's an Theme, which has the skins in the file, you need permission. If it's a Suite which are only links to the skins, permission isn't required. In both cases, credit should be given to all authors in the description. And as Fuzzy says, it is a very nice thing to ask even if it isn't required.

Thanks for the sound advice. I think it makes sense to try and contact the authors out of courtesy. I'll read the new Stardock documents file for more info just to be sure.

Maybe I'll just load it up as a Desktop of the month and give credits

Anyway - mad props to all skinners who share their great talents!!! You guys rock
